Ask Belle: Uniqlo Cardigan, Two Ways

Oct 12, 2015

Hi Belle,

I freaking loved the Uniqlo cardigan you put on the blog last week. I had to have it!  Now tell me how to wear it to work!  Ha ha ha.

S.V.

I chose that cardigan specifically because it looked cozy, but it had enough structure that it could be a blazer-alternative for semi-casual days.  It reminds me of my favorite M.M. LaFleur cardigan, which keeps me warm all winter long.  So let’s figure out a couple of ways to wear a chunky knit to the office.

Sweater: Uniqlo + Lemaire Cardigan ($58)

From Left, Earrings: Cole Haan Labradorite Studs ($38) // Bag: Halogen Fremont Satchel ($188) // Shoes: Steve Madden Shiela ($85) // Top: H&M V-neck Satin Top ($18) // Pants: J.Crew Hutton Trouser ($168)

From Right, Ring: Sam Edelman Stone Age Ring ($30) // Bag: Calvin Klein Snake Dome Satchel ($458) // Shoes: Michael Kors Flex Pump ($99) // Dress: T Tahari V-neck Dress ($128)

Tailored Trousers. I don’t wear pants often, and I rarely choose J.Crew pieces.  But I own these trousers, and they are pretty great.  My only complaint is that they’re not lined.  These Limited Cassidy trousers are a less expensive alternative.

Because the cardigan is a cool blue-green, I wanted to keep all the under pieces the same color.  This will help you look taller.  However, a silky ivory blouse would be lovely as well.

For the accessories, I chose a Labradorite earring.  Labradorite mixes blue, green, and grey into one beautiful stone.  If you prefer a necklace, try this Athena gold disk pendant.

The burgundy purse brings a pop of color to the look.  I’ve kicked the tires on this Halogen bag and it’s really well made for the price.  I also like their front-pocket tote in burgundy.  If you like wine-colored hues enough to spend a bit more, try this Michael Kors Dillon satchel.

Lastly, I like a crisp grey pointed toe pump.  For something leather, try these Jowzer pumps.

For the hair, I would wear it down and loosely waved.  For the makeup, I would wear a burgundy nail and a lot of mascara.

Cozy & Feminine. A v-neck dress is the perfect complement to a chunky cardigan.  I like this simple T Tahari dress for all seasons.  I also like this Theory dress and this Hugo Boss sheath.  If you’re not feeling navy, burgundy, gray, ivory, and pale blue are all good choices.

I love a snakeskin bag.  This pattern is great.  For something less expensive, try this Mellow World bag.

I added a pair of navy shoes so I could keep the color palette simple.  If you are looking for something different, burgundy or cognac would be good.

Statement rings are really hot right now.  I enjoy the simplicity of this ring.  This wing/feather ring is great.  For a little color, I like this chalcedony-hued ring.

For the makeup, I would keep it neutral with a bit of navy blue eyeliner.  It’s a little softer than black.  For the hair, I would wear it up in a loose updo.

Does anyone have any idea how the Uniqlo cardigan runs size-wise? It looks like it’s sold out online, but I may search ebay and was wondering if it runs true to size. Thanks!

The Find: Bright and Striped

For the past few years, the wardrobes of many influencers have tilted toward the beige and boring.  I’m all for a good basic, but staple pieces can only take you so far.  Sometimes, you need to wear something that has a little something extra, and this sale-priced tee certainly does.
