Halogen Seamed Pencil Skirt ($69, also in petite)

I’ve spoken before about my love for this pencil skirt.  The material is a good weight, and the skirt wears beautifully.  It’s an affordable piece that every woman can love.

Need wool?  Banana Republic has a lightweight skirt for just $58.  Mango also offers a nice wool-blend pencil.

Black is a great basic, but if you need other colors, I have suggestions.  I love grey pencil skirts for another neutral option.  This Alfani skirt is a nice choice (especially for $29).  Love color?  This WHBM skirt in green is drop dead gorgeous (also in petite).  The Halogen skirt also comes in a lovely blackberry.

Looking to upgrade?  Hugo Boss is always my brand of choice.  For something more in the $100+ range, I like this Elie Tahari skirt.

Am I just ridiculously frugal? I make 95k and will only buy business pencil skirts from LOFT when they’re on sale for around $20. I wonder if my co-workers think my clothes look cheap. In no way is $69 for a skirt affordable to me.

I think everyone has a spending budget for clothing, regardless of income. I make less than $50k and would easily pay 100+ for a good pencil skirt, but I love clothes!

Do your $20 skirts hold up? Mine usually fall apart after one season, if they last that long. That’s why I started buying clothes that cost more upfront. The long term value is actually cheaper.

Along the same lines, the older I get, the less time I want to spend shopping for trends, the more time I want to spend with friends and family. I don’t want to mess around with shopping all the time.

Gift Guide 2023: Stocking Stuffers, Pt. 1

I love stocking stuffers.  They are the best part of Christmas.  There’s just nothing quite like an affordable gift that’s funny or useful or chic (or maybe all three).  So here is Part One of my stocking stuffer gift guides, where nothing costs more than $30.
