1) How to talk about your skills without sounding like a show off.

2) A gorgeous, snakeskin bag for $55? Come to, Mama.  I also love this $32 flap clutch with cool details.

3) Feeling malevolent (or just need a laugh)? Check out The New Devil’s Dictionary.

4) I didn’t understand the purpose of a Silpat baking mat, until I bought one. Even in my temperamental oven, cookies come out perfect.

5) Having difficulty staying on task?  How to boss yourself around.

6) Give any shiny or creamy lipstick a soft matte finish with this Cargo matte topcoat. I love it over my Clinique Black Honey Almost Lipstick.

7) How sanctions on Iran forced the saffron industry to come up with some interesting ways to keep the “red gold” flowing.

8) This long-sleeve Cynthia Rowley dress is so gorgeous.  Need a cheaper alternative? Try this Vince Camuto dress.

9) This six most revealing types of interview questions.

10) WhoWhatWear talks to several shoe designers about what makes a high-heel comfortable.  For comfort, I love the Michael Kors Flex Pumps and any of Cole Haan’s shoes.

11) You have 80,000 hours in your career; here’s how to do the most good with them.

  1. Jennifer D says:

I’ve owned a Silpat (and appreciated non-burned cookies!), but now prefer parchment paper since the Silpat always seemed a little greasy, even after I cleaned it well. Parchment paper can be found in the grocery store with the aluminum foil and plastic wrap. Martha Stewart, you were so right 🙂

    • Anna says:

Silpat is good for cookies and pastries that shouldn’t brown at al like macarons. Sometimes you want a little caramelization or you want the cookie to have a little something to cling to, and Silpat diffuses the heat too much. I prefer a heavier not non-stick pan with a sheet of parchment over. If your cookies are burning too easily, your pan may be a little too lightweight.

  2. Jenn S. says:

Number one is so timely for me as I head into a meeting tomorrow to discuss my career advancement tomorrow. As someone who hasn’t been in a position to really negotiate before, I will be tomorrow and, frankly, I am anxious about screwing it up.

  3. I have 2 Silpats. One for sweet, one of savoury. It is gross when I mix the two. 🙂

This weekend, I got two hours to myself for the first time in months. Really to myself. My child was asleep. My dogs were asleep. Kyle was off playing cards with his friends. My house was clean, and there was nothing else to do but sit in my bed and scroll Instagram. It was glorious. […]

November AMA: You Asked, I Answered

Another month has come and gone, and between a busy work schedule, illness and the search for new childcare, I almost forgot to ask for questions for the AMA.  Luckily, I remembered late last night.  So here we go. I always think it’s funny when people send rude or overly personal questions when I put […]
