One of my favorite boards on Pinterest is my Styling & Accessorizing board. Recently, a friend asked how I decide what to pin, what makes an outfit stand out? So I thought I’d dissect one of my recent pins to illustrate what draws me to an ensemble.
Vince Open-Knit Cashmere Sweater ($173) // River Island Peach Leather-Look Skirt ($30) // Kors Chronograph Watch ($250) // Stella & Dot Spike Bracelet ($59) and Christina Link Bracelet ($49)
What attracted me to this outfit was the mix of textures, the color palette, and the way the jewelry is layered just so. It’s an outfit that brings a relaxed cool to business attire.
Texture. Mix the smooth leather skirt with the chunky knit sweater for a combination that’s cozy and chic. If this Vince sweater is sold out in your size, try this heavier gauge sweater from Le Ciel or this inexpensive Gap Ribbed Raglan sweater. Just be sure to choose something that has some texture in the knit.
This leather-like skirt is an awesome piece at a great price. I’m also a big fan of this pale purple mock-leather skirt.
Color. Soft, neutrals are all the rage right now. (Thanks, Olivia Pope.) This mix of ivory and tan looks great in any season. But add the soft pink jacket, and you’ve got a subtle burst of color that makes the look impossibly fresh.
Looking for a blush over coat? This discounted Trina Turk coat is superb. Looking for a blazer? This collarless Pendleton jacket is pretty and affordable. This Wallis jacket is also worth a look.
Jewelry. A chunky watch is made more gorgeous with a few layered bracelets. Choose a few bracelets in different widths and textures to create a modern statement.
I like these Stella & Dot bracelets (I own them in both gold and silver.). Other options include this perfectly simple Idiom bangle from Kate Spade and this Tom Binns open cuff with pyramid accents. And if you prefer a set of bracelets that comes pre-curated, try the Scientist bracelet trio from Baublebar.
Last Thoughts. A simple shoe change, and this outfit is perfect for the office. It would look great during fall, spring, or winter. Want to make it work for summer? Just switch out the chunky knit for an equally contrasting silk camisole. Done, and done.
