1) Lean Back, Eric Schmidt!: How Interrupting Men and Unconscious Bias Are Killing Women’s Careers.

2) These $109 sliver wedges from Talbots are a versatile spring/summer shoe.  I also love these tan high heel sandals with a block heel and a memory foam footbed.

3) This article on what happens to your body when you quit drinking soda makes me want to toss out the Dr. Pepper in my fridge.

4) Need casual Friday dresses? I love the shape of this Annie Dress from Boden (though not all of the prints).  This Jones New York shirt dress is a crisp choice.

5) Alterations Needed has a great post on how to measure your foot to choose your ideal, comfortable high-heel height.  This explains why I find 3″ heels so darn comfortable and anything higher hurts.

6) This high-neck halter cocktail dress from Lover is breathtaking.  For something affordable and impactful, I love this Bardot dress.

7) A new stay-at-home mom discusses her fears about being financially dependent on her husband and never working full-time again.  It’s a refreshingly candid read.

8) TBD has an article on blue light therapy for acne. It has me thinking about buying this Pulsaderm blue light wand.  More concerned about wrinkles? They also have a tutorial on red light therapy.

The link to the bardot dress…is that right? I mean, do your thing, by all means. I’m just hoping it’s a link error. (I see a midriff-bearing twosie.)

    • Angie says:

The leopard-print ensemble is definitely something to keep in mind for April Fool’s Day, though 😉

  2. Mica says:

I gave up soda a while ago. Now it’s water (plain or sparkling) and unsweetened teas. Sodas are now too sweet for me to drink- I’d rather have that sugar in cupcake form.

    • Crystal says:

I cut out diet soda in late 2013, and I haven’t looked back. (I used to drink 3-5 sodas a day — gross, I know — but eliminating soda was easier than I thought it would be.) Now, I’d much rather splurge with a real cappuccino and cookie, or some ice cream at night, than go back to soda. My beloved Diet Coke and Diet Cherry Coke don’t even taste good to me anymore!

      • Belle says:

I switched to regular soda last year and cut back to one or two of the small 100 cal cans a week. I just love the Dr. Pepper too much.

        • Crystal says:

Still a marked improvement! I doubt one or two of the smaller cans is any worse for you than any other sweet splurge. 🙂

        • I love diet pepsi but I know (I KNOW!) it is terrible for me. I’ve quit and restarted so many times…ugh.

This article has been all over my FB feed today — maybe Dr. Pepper is the answer: https://dfw.cbslocal.com/2015/03/18/dr-pepper-the-doctor-of-choice-for-a-104-year-old-woman/

          • Sarah says:

That lady probably lived in spite of the soda. Plus it’s a process. I gave up soda and went to sweet tea for about two years. Then unsweet tea. I’d have soda as a treat only occasionally at a restaurant. Now i can’t stand the soda and it doesn’t even quench my thirst. But that was over about 10 years. Maybe over time those Dr. Peppers won’t even taste as good. But if you still want one sometimes, who even cares. We all have our things. You’ll take my fake cheese out of my cold dead hands.

I’m currently weaning myself off syrup in coffee (I only use a teeny teeny bit, I swear..)

  3. Katherine says:

I’ve done two fill-the-cart splurges at Jones New York (through their actual website, not Macy’s) this week–yesterday all sale items were 50% off (so many decent $20 dresses!!) and today everything is 40% off. Looks like they’re closing up shop. Not cutting edge fashion, but I’ve always relied on them for good work basics. Right now, things aren’t final sale so I did my usual buy 2 sizes, return one plan.

  4. Kate says:

Please buy the blue laser and tell us if it really works!

    • Belle says:

The Tanda Zap they talk about in the article does work. I owned one for a year and was happy with it. Maybe I’ll try the larger one.

  5. clara says:

I’m just not willing to give up soda. I have one a day and that’s all. And NOTHING beats an ice cold Dr. Pepper out of a can!

  6. Monica says:

#7 is right on. I have a deep dark fear of losing my financial independence, and even though I’m not a stay-at-home-mom and we are a dual-earner household, I still need to hold on to a little bit just for myself. My husband will sometimes say I do it because I think of it as me against him, but really I just don’t like being beholden to anyone. So now I give myself an allowance which I split in to a personal savings account and spending money, and everything else goes to the household coffers. That way I am still doing my part, but can keep a little bit just for me (and my sanity). He can’t tell ME what to do (says my inner teenager).

  7. Addie says:

I got really lucky and soda just stopped appealing to me out of the blue. I have no idea why, I used to drink it a lot. But I’m certainly not complaining. It’s only a partial victory though because I still consume way too many calories via wine. Haha.

  8. Heidi says:

I’ve been thinking of pulling the trigger on the Pulsaderm as well.

Actually, my dentist once gave me a free “blue light shot” on a pimple as a teenager and helped very much. I’m just weary, because the Pulsaderm is FDA approved as a Grade II medical device only. Which means it is safe to use at home, but wasn’t approved for efficacy.

  9. Liza says:

just want to say I’m still loving all the workday reading lists and I’m so glad you doubled up on them. I enjoy them so much! Thanks Belle!

The Find: Shirts That Don’t Gape

I remember when Rochelle Behrens launched The Shirt — a button-down blouse with anti-gape technology (a patented internal button that keeps the look smooth). The idea seemed brilliant, but at the time, my bust didn’t require an extra button. One baby later, I understand the need for some extra security.
