A colored skirt is one of my favorite pieces in any season.  I love this J.Crew skirt for the fall/winter; its plum hue is so gorgeous.  Want something brighter?  This Boden skirt in orange and red is a showstopper.  Prefer the subtler hues? This teal skirt from Saturday is fab.

Plus-size? Jones New York has a pencil skirt in a similar color.  Petite? Halogen makes a berry-hued pencil.

For Casual Monday. For this movie, I wanted to mix a variety of textures–silk, wool, chunky knit.  This look bridges casual and professional into a cozy outfit.  It’s a good choice for a semi-relaxed winter workday.

Iris & Ink tops are some of my favorites.  They’re classic and good quality.  If it’s a bit out of your price range, try this oversized H&M crinkle top or this fitted J.Crew silk petal sleeve top.

This sweater is a cozy knit for chilly offices.  I also really like this Neiman Marcus cardigan with a wide weave, currently on sale for $53.  Or if you want to splurge a chunky knit cardigan, I own this M.M. Lafleur sweater, and it is so.so.so warm.  Plus-size?  This chunky Junarose cardigan is worth a look.

Tall boots keep your legs just a little warmer, which is always appreciated in chilly offices.  Sadly, most grey boots only come in suede.  If you prefer leather, I found these wedge boots.  To complete the outfit, I added a teal handbag (what a buy!) and a pair of inexpensive hoops.

For the hair, a soft updo (good for short or long hair).  For the makeup, I would wear a soft plum-colored blush and a good coat of black eyeliner and mascara.

For the Office. I love the navy and purple color combination.  It’s rich and luxurious.  It’s practical, but also loaded with color.

Another Iris & Ink blouse (sensing a theme here?), but if you need something cheaper, try this round-neck top from Boden.  I love Rebecca Taylor’s tweed jackets, and this one is no exception.  This Nine West jacket is a good place to start if you need something less expensive.

These grey booties felt like a better fit for this outfit than grey pumps, but it’s dealer’s choice.  I chose micro-fishnets instead of tights because they felt a bit more adult than tights, and seemed a better fit for the outfit.

I chose a grey tote, but a satchel, like this one from Danielle Nicole.  To complete the outfit, I chose a simple silver drop earring.  You could also add a fun ring, like this one from Ippolita.

For the makeup, I’d keep it soft with a light dusting of plum shadow on the eyes.  For the hair, I would do a teased, half-up/half-down style.

Belle – I like both outfits, but cardigans are a challenge! I have a small frame, and open cardigans usually look baggy instead of stylish on me. Waist-length, buttoned cardigans look better in terms of proportion, but I’m getting really tired of them since I’ve been wearing that style for years. Do you have a recommendation for a sweater that’s current, but doesn’t overwhelm?

Thanks so much for sharing your good taste with your readers. I’ve learned an immense amount from you!

The Find: Shirts That Don’t Gape

I remember when Rochelle Behrens launched The Shirt — a button-down blouse with anti-gape technology (a patented internal button that keeps the look smooth). The idea seemed brilliant, but at the time, my bust didn’t require an extra button. One baby later, I understand the need for some extra security.
