For the Office. The base outfit is all about monochrome, while the coat and accessories add color to the look.  I love the soft mauve and bold burgundy.  But there is nothing like the simple elegance of all grey.

These trousers are one of the few pairs of dress pants in my closet.  If you’re looking for something less-expensive, Express has these tweed trousers and these sleek Jones New York trousers.  Plus-size?  Try these Sejour pants in charcoal.

Looking for a long sleeve sweater?  Try this Gap Merino v-neck, also in tall and petite.  Prefer a blouse?  I like this inexpensive Forever21 blouse.

This mauve coat is incredible.  I also fell hard for this collarless coat in a bold deep-berry.  There’s nothing like a colored topper to spice up an outfit.

For the Office. Oh, hello, gorgeous deep green skirt.  Why, oh why, do you cost more than three months of car payments?  I do not understand.  Luckily, J.Crew Factory has this deep green skirt for under-$75.

Now, you know I love micro-fishnets instead of nylons, but they’re not for every woman or every office.  Need a switch?  With these gorgeous grey suede booties, you need grey tights to conform with the two-out-of-three rule.  Grey keeps the look sleek, where black would just break it up too much.

Not loving the booties?  These grey tall boots from DvF are to.die.for.  Want something less-expensive?  You need to switch to black or chocolate-brown, these Alfani boots come in either color.

I chose a leopard-print bag for a burst of wild, animal print.  If you need something cheaper, try this bag from The Limited.  Prefer something else?  I like this mustard-colored Aldo bag.  You could also go for a plum or burgundy color; I like this Tommy Hilfiger shoulder bag (a great buy in four colors).

Yay for a Two Ways!! Love the outfits! I love a monochromatic look, but when I take off the coat/jacket and don’t carry my bag around the office, I feel a little blah. That’s when I try to add more texture to a look to give it some interest. Beautiful and easy looks you have picked here!

What’s your take on the Scandal line from Limited?

  2. Julia says:

Love that pink coat! My office is always freezing cold so I’ve been adding a fur snood to every outfit, it’s an easy chic way to keep warm.

  3. Ah Melinda! I definitely have been waiting for Belle to share her thoughts on the Scandal line.

These Ivanka boots may be better suited for a night out, but are a less pricey alternative for those who have fallen MADLY in love with the DVF boots.

  4. How is it that I’ve never thought of the micro-fishnets instead of plain tights thing? That’s brilliant! Totally doing that this winter.

  5. raquel says:

Any tips for pulling off gray and gray? I thought about doing that today with a sweater/trouser combo but something about the texture or colors didn’t go. I guess I have the same issue as Melinda, above- how do you make them look good when you take off your jacket and bag?

    • Liz says:

I love a bit of gray on gray, but I feel like a monochrome outfit calls for a statement necklace or something like that.

  6. Jessie says:

LOVE this coat, I bought it immediately.

Since Sloane was born, I’ve fallen hard into a black, white, and blue wardrobe. This is not necessarily a bad thing, but as spring blooms, I need a little color in my wardrobe (and probably a little print too). Here are a few tops that caught my eye for work.

Too Many Tabs: April 19, 2024

This week, I fell mindlessly into my phone more than I think I ever have. My screen time went from 3.5 hours per day to 5 hours per day. But the increased eye strain did lead to some good finds. Just going to leave this right here.  (I really need to work on “Didn’t make […]
