Work Wednesday: Belle’s Favorite Updo

Jul 1, 2014

I have a favorite updo for those days when time is scant, the weather is nasty, I don’t have time to blow-dry, or those particularly ugly days when all three are true.  I’ve tried to explain the technique on the blog before, but hairstyles are the one thing that really requires a tutorial.  So I was so glad to finally find one that illustrated what I believe is the easiest, most stylish updo in my repertoire.

When you get into the habit of styling your hair this way, it will take less than five-minutes.  I recommend dry shampoo or texturizing spray to give you body and hold.  I also recommend using clear elastics, and keeping a few bobby pins in your purse to touch-up fly-aways.

This tutorial and the image below comes from Yet Another Beauty Site.  It’s a great place to find tutorials of all kinds, so check it out if you have a minute.

I did this starting with a low braid when my hair was longer(braid, flip through all the way, then pin braid end in center hole).
Have you tried the herbal essences dry shampoo? It is very grippy and almost works like hairspray for me- perfect for putting hair up on days I don’t wash it.

This is very cute, but I’m not sure how well it would work with longer hair like mine.

I just wanted to make a not that the link for yetanotherbeautysite.com actually leads you to the texturing spray.

Thanks for sharing this style! The link to yet another beauty site points to Nord storm’s site.

I’ve done this style and I like it BUT if you have heavy/thick/long hair, be prepared to use a TON of bobby pins and spray!

    • Belle says:

My hair isn’t heavy or thick. It is below my shoulders, but not so long. I do break the pony up into three sections though to get a more secure hold.

    • Kim says:

I too have long THICK hair. I actually only did it on the top half of my hair. It was a struggle to get it back through the pony but the end it looked good. And bobby pins don’t ever hold my hair, I just used another rubber band around it once I got it tucked back in again.

The Small Things Blog is written by a hairdresser and has many tutorials on hairstyles, including braids and updos.

How do you do the second step? Lol

Beauty Review: Bondi Boost

As I age, I notice many changes in my body. Most are fine. Some are frustrating. Like many women, I lost a lot of hair in my postpartum phase. Being anemic for more than a year after, it didn’t grow back in to its former glory. So I’ve tried any number of shampoos, pills and […]

The Mondays: March 18, 2024

This weekend was a tricky one. The warm weather and bright sunshine of last weekend disappeared in a flurry of wet snow trapping our very active 18-month-old in the house with us. Plus, our babysitter cancelled, so neither of us feels ready for the week ahead. But in between making mac-and-cheese and watching Aristocats for […]
