Merona Long Sleeve Crewneck ($20)
Last week, I had a number of emails and comments regarding cardigans vs. blazers for work. While a cardi is not as professional as a blazer, that doesn’t mean it’s unprofessional. Cardigans shouldn’t be worn for big meetings, important events, etc. unless the dress code of your office is dyed-in-the-wool business casual. But even if you work in a professional office, a cardigan can be used as a blazer replacement for casual Fridays and relaxed Mondays.
This Target cardigan is a nice basic for $20. Like many women, I like the J.Crew Jackie Cardigan. However, the quality isn’t what it once was, so I only buy them on sale. Land’s End also makes a great cardigan (in petite, tall and plus size), as does WHBM (great berry color). C. Wonder also makes a cardigan in a mesh fabric for hot summer days.
If you like printed cardigans, this Halogen cardi in black and white print is fab. Target also makes a 3/4 sleeve cardigan that comes in several great prints.
Plus-size: Charter Club Cardigan ($12) Petite: Banana Republic Anna Cardigan ($60) (also in misses)
I own that exact Merona cardigan in navy. It’s not bad–certainly gets the job done. I will say that I wish the waist was more fitted as it can have the tendency to look a bit frumpy at times. I’m still on the hunt for the perfect cardigan.

I love the halogen cardigan. I have them in a rainbow of colors.
Second the Halogen cardigan!
I love the J.Crew Jackie cardigan and agree that the quality has declined in recent years. I’ve started buying the Clare cardigan at the J.Crew factory store and I’ve never paid more than $25 for them! I find the store and the factory store to be about the same quality on that particular item.
I’m having the hardest time finding a decent full-sleeve cardigan. I don’t like the 3/4 sleeve (especially from Ann Taylor) because I get 1-2 wears and then I have to hand wash because it’s stretched out. Plus I can’t layer a 3/4 sleeve as well. Any suggestions for a full length sleeve cardi with some stretch to it? I need to replace my black & cream cardis and would like to add a navy.
