10th Commandment: May 27

May 27, 2014

It’s a short week, so I thought I would pull some affordable shoes for the warmer weather months.  Because who doesn’t love an inexpensive, stylish shoe?

Nine West Mela Wedges ($79)

These wedges are a good alternative for pumps.  If you’re going to be campaigning this summer, your feet and ankles will thank you for the extra support.  And even if you’re just walking to lunch, the padded footbed keeps your feet happy.  These shoes come in a lot of great colors, but don’t miss the black patent and the patent leopard print.

In the under-$100 category, I like these snakeskin Maya wedges from Gilt.  If you’re looking for black, these Calvin Klein’s Sexton wedges come in kidskin leather and a textured version.  Looking for an open-toe shoe?  These Alfani wedges comes in several colors, as do these Nine West Relaxxin peeps.

Lovely wedges. I loved reading your comments in this weekend’s washpo article and had a follow up question…do Jack Rogers count as flip flops? While not rubber, they basically are right? (I realize in horror). I work in an extremely casual office with no specific dress code and wore them all last summer but am now reconsidering. Thoughts? (and thanks!)

  2. Joules says:

I’ve always preferred flats to wedges. Wedges are still heels and make it hard on your feet. Flats have the same professional appeal while making it easy to get around.

Loving the Clarks Purity Snow wedges I ordered last week from Amazon. I usually have a strict 3 inchish pump-only rule, but I can’t stop wearing these! Super comfy, surprisingly sleek, and only about 70$ in black.

  4. Sarah says:

Wedges CAN add more support, but many (like the ones pictured) actually have a very narrow part that goes under your foot and on the ground. They are very ‘wobbly’ and make an ankle twist or sprain very easy.

Beauty Review: Bondi Boost

As I age, I notice many changes in my body. Most are fine. Some are frustrating. Like many women, I lost a lot of hair in my postpartum phase. Being anemic for more than a year after, it didn’t grow back in to its former glory. So I’ve tried any number of shampoos, pills and […]

The Find: Shirts That Don’t Gape

I remember when Rochelle Behrens launched The Shirt — a button-down blouse with anti-gape technology (a patented internal button that keeps the look smooth). The idea seemed brilliant, but at the time, my bust didn’t require an extra button. One baby later, I understand the need for some extra security.
