1) The Washington Examiner has the scoop on a forthcoming reality show about Capitol Hill produced by an executive from House of Cards.  I have three thoughts on this:  1) You’d have to be brain-dead to participate in one of these shows.  If you care about your career on the Hill, it’s going nowhere if you’re on a reality show.  2)  D.C. reality shows are always terrible (RHOB DC, Real World, Blonde Charity Mafia, etc.) and 3) There is no way that this show can be anything resembling real, so I’d watch it with a mine full of salt on hand.

2) I don’t shop at Old Navy often, but this short sleeved embellished sweater and this tie belt maxi dress have me thinking it might be time for a visit.  And do.not.miss this casual tassel tote in light tan, it looks much more expensive in person.

3) If the demographics of the world were represented by 100 people, great info graphic.

4) I have never liked anything Roberto Cavalli designed…until now, this dress is phenomenal.

5) My friend Meghan at Wit & Whimsy has a roundup of white dresses.  My favorite?  This strapless Tracy Reese.

6) The Nordstrom Half-Yearly is a great time for jewelry shopping.  This lapis stone cuff from Melinda Maria is to.die.for.  I also love this Alexis Bittar chain bracelet with gold, dark metal and crystal accents.  And in the under-$25 category, don’t miss this starburst hinged bangle.

7) The NYT has a fascinating article about a “wingman for hire” who helps men learn to interact with women.  He refuses to be characterized as a pick up artist.

8) These high heels are the sexiest thing I’ve seen in a while.  The price isn’t bad either.

9) Love to cook/bake?  Have trouble with conversions?  Give Siri a rest and hang this handy guide to converting cups, teaspoons and ounces in your kitchen.

10) Reiss has 30%-off selected lines.  This snakeskin clutch is at the top of my list.  I also love this pony hair and metal panel belt, good for all seasons.

11)  The Levi Strauss CEO wants us to stop washing our jeans. I only wash mine once or twice per month, but his recommendation is a bit more wear than I’m comfortable with.

12) If you spend a lot of time at the beach or the pool, don’t miss Alterna’s Sun Recovery Spray.  It’s a leave-in conditioner that helps your locks bounce back after too much time in the sun and surf.

13) The past few Target collaborations haven’t thrilled me, but their upcoming collab with Altuzarra has me thinking big thoughts.

I bought that Old Navy tote in black a few months back and I’ve been using it a lot, including shoving my laptop into it when I travel. It’s surprisingly sturdy.

  2. Anna says:

Ha, I’d never even heard of Blind Charity Mafia! Such a horrible name, it’s no wonder it never aired in the States. Sundance did a reality show on the Hill that followed around Robert Wexler’s office that wasn’t a career killer, but then again, it was Sundance, so it’s not like they were looking for cheap drama.

  3. Jess says:

For washing jeans so infrequently (like 1 or 2 times per month) what do you use to spot treat or keep them fresh?

    • A says:

Supposedly, spraying them with vodka and letting them air dry helps get rid of odors. For stains, I doubt spot treating with a little bit of soap and water will do any harm even in the long run.

    • Karly says:

Also, what about jeans that stretch. I have some Gap jeans that stretch out with wear and I would have an awfully saggy bottom if I only washed them 1x a month.

  4. Meghan says:

Thank you so much for including me lady!! Have a great long weekend in your new town! Sending you hugs.

  5. IF that Cavalli dress was longer, I’d be all over it.

I find his design sensibilities kind of vulgar. It’s a little too…shall we say Miami, or Desperate Housewives.

I also really like that white Tracy Reese dress but I HATE strapless dresses (got nuttin up top to hold it up). If I could put straps on it, I’d make it mine.

  6. Amanda says:

Belle, I love that you keep posting that Old Navy tote – I’ve spent the semester interning here and needed a go-to, professional, inexpensive bag. It’s all three, it’s worn nicely, and it makes me so happy to see you confirming that it’s stylish too!

  7. m says:

I’m also not an Old Navy shopper, but ON helped me fulfill my quest for a simple, striped t-shirt dress. Surprisingly, BR, Gap, Land’s End and Boden all failed me on this search. In the summer, I can’t live without jersey dresses to throw on after work or on weekends.

That 100 people infographic was an interesting read. Thanks for sharing!

And yes, those snakeskin sandals are sexy as all get out.

Beauty Review: Bondi Boost

As I age, I notice many changes in my body. Most are fine. Some are frustrating. Like many women, I lost a lot of hair in my postpartum phase. Being anemic for more than a year after, it didn’t grow back in to its former glory. So I’ve tried any number of shampoos, pills and […]

I remember when Rochelle Behrens launched The Shirt — a button-down blouse with anti-gape technology (a patented internal button that keeps the look smooth). The Mondays: March 18, 2024

This weekend was a tricky one. The warm weather and bright sunshine of last weekend disappeared in a flurry of wet snow trapping our very active 18-month-old in the house with us. Plus, our babysitter cancelled, so neither of us feels ready for the week ahead. But in between making mac-and-cheese and watching Aristocats for […]
