A girlfriend texted me Saturday with a question that was uniquely D.C. Her office is no longer suits and sheath dresses, but it’s not jeans and athleisure either. “Can an office be ‘semi-formal’?,” she pondered. “What do I wear for that?!” Enter the shirtdress, the solution for summer.
Welcome to the warm weather months. Outside, you will roast. Inside, you will freeze. The air conditioning will be your constant nemesis, as it “conditions” the air to a temperature that is primarily suitable for men. Luckily, this cardigan can keep you warm even when your fiery resentment wanes.
Nora Ephron was right: I feel bad about my neck. As I move through my forties, the creases have turned into chasms. The skin sags like a pair of sweatpants with aging elastic. It’s not great. But it’s just a natural part of getting older. Over the past year, it feels like I’ve tried every […]

This week has been an absolute bear, so let’s reach into the reader mail bag and answer some questions. And let’s start with a post about affordable summer bags.
I have the Club Monaco flats and like them very much. They are well made and comfortable, but the embossed leather is quite delicate–I have to be careful about stubbing my toes or heels, since the leather will scratch off. I wouldn’t recommend them for commuting-keep them in the office and change into them like you might a pair of heels.
I’ve been obsessing over these Tory Burch d’ orsay snakeskin flats: https://www.neimanmarcus.com/Tory-Burch-Viv-Lizard-Print-d-Orsay-Flat-Natural/prod165250088/p.prod?ecid=NMCIGoogleProductAds&ci_sku=prod165250088skuNATURAL&ci_gpa=pla.
I think I’d just convinced myself I don’t need then and then this post re-opened my inner argument.
Those are really cute, but I tried them on at the friends and family sale the other day and was shocked by how uncomfortable they were. The vamp manages to cut across my foot at the worst possible point, and there is negatory arch support (this may have to do with it being d’orsay style…)
My wallet thanks you! 🙂 I usually don’t mind d’orsay styles comfort wise but I’m certainly not havig an uncomfortable flat!
Steve Madden also has a great pair of snake skin flats for only $39! https://www.shopstyle.com/action/apiVisitRetailer?id=435428072&pid=uid3481-23865059-61
