Zara Midi Pencil Skirt ($59)

Colored pencil skirts are great for spring and summer.  They add a bit of the season to your wardrobe, while maintaining their professional feel.  This aqua is a color that I haven’t seen before, but it feels very fresh to me.

Not feeling this hue?  I also found this cobalt Banana Republic skirt and this blue-lavender WHBM skirt.  Prefer another color entirely?  This Antonio Melani skirt comes in a pretty coral, and this pencil skirt from WHBM comes in a vibrant green.

Also, don’t miss the Banana Republic Sloan pencil skirt in a wide variety of colors, in misses, petites and tall.

Looking for a sweet deal?  Ellen Tracy makes a nice skirt (with a wonderfully wide waistband) that comes in several lovely colors for $30.

Plus-size?  Target has this teal pencil, while Coldwater Creek has this cobalt, eyelet midi-skirt (also in misses and petites).  Petite? Ann Taylor has a pencil in bold sapphire or eggplant (also in misses).

Pencil skirts are attire MUSTS! especially love the color belle. Good choice.

  2. Meridith says:

This loft twill skirt in sea spray blue is also amazing (and lined!) Light enough for summer in the mid-west and the color is easy to incorporate. https://www.loft.com/matte-stretch-twill-pencil-skirt-/329909 They have sales about once or twice a month so you can almost get it for less than $40

  3. Heather says:

My problem is that I have no idea what to pair with that color except for a boring white top. Any suggestions?

    • Me too! I love aqua, but I can’t think of what to pair it with other than white. A pale yellow, maybe?

      • Meghan says:

I love aqua with navy as well… Good transition into spring, in my opinion.

      • Anna says:

Yes to navy and pale yellow. A nude/beige color would look great too.

      • SLG says:

If it’s a low-key aqua, think of it like mint green. It goes beautifully with cobalt blue. Also red. And gray! And maybe even camel, but it would have to be just the right shade.

i have the LOFT scuba pencil in aqua and it is my favorite skirt. i wear it often with a black&white polka dot top. but also with mustard yellow. or cobalt blue. i get LOTS of compliments.

    • Heather says:

Raspberry, teal, and other cool vibrant hues would be awesome. I’d probably stay away from pastels to avoid looking too easter eggish. Black would be an interesting mod pop, and gray would keep it moody.

I work by the Macy’s on State Street in Chicago…I might have to run over during lunch to check out those pencil skirts!

  5. Joules says:

I just spied that skirt yesterday and absolutely loved it. Such a great color!

Two ways to wear it? When did you stop doing that? Please start again!

  7. Tiffany says:

Has the Banana Republic Sloan pencil skirt improved? I bought a navy one last year, and it lost its shape after one wash. It had a weird poof at the butt after washing that I could never get to “lay” down. After only having it for six months, I gave it away. So disappointing since the price and colors are great.

The Mondays: March 18, 2024

This weekend was a tricky one. The warm weather and bright sunshine of last weekend disappeared in a flurry of wet snow trapping our very active 18-month-old in the house with us. Plus, our babysitter cancelled, so neither of us feels ready for the week ahead. But in between making mac-and-cheese and watching Aristocats for […]
