The 3rd Annual CHS March Madness Challenge

Mar 18, 2014

Aside from the first day of football season and the first day of the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale, the first day of the NCAA Men’s Basketball Tournament is my favorite day of the year.  And because I adore it so, it’s time for the 3rd Annual CHS March Madness Challenge.

MFF_2014_LogoTo enter the Challenge, follow these simple steps.  1) Join Yahoo Fantasy Sports.  2) Join the Capitol Hill Style pool (password caphillstyle).  3) Complete your bracket by 1:00AM EDT on Thursday, March 20th (NOT Tip-Off).  4) Cross your fingers that you finish in the top 3 brackets and win prizes and all accompanying bragging rights.

Last year, I learned a few valuable lessons about hosting a bracket challenge, so things are a little different this year.  First off, please register with an email address that you check regularly.  If you win, I will use the email address in the system to contact you, so please make sure the emails will get to you.  If you already have an account, but need to change the email address, you can do that by clicking on the gear-shaped icon in the upper right hand corner of the screen.

Second, in past years, I have offered the top three finishers gift cards to Nordstrom.  This year, the winners will be allowed to decide whether they would like a gift card from Nordstrom, Sephora or J.Crew.  The 1st place finisher will receive a $100 gift card, 2nd place will receive $50 and 3rd place will receive $25.

Like most of the giveaways that occur on this blog, I will be buying the gift cards myself, they’re not donated.  So if a miracle occurs, and I possess one of the top three brackets, we’ll just treat it like my entry doesn’t count and I’ll receive bragging right but pass the prize to the entrant behind me. If two entrants tie for first, second or third place, all will receive the prize.

Remember the Challenge is completely free to enter, so I hope many of you will join in.  If memory serves we had several hundred entries last year, and it’s always fun to read the message boards.

A very March Madness to you all, Belle

    Fun! Thanks for doing this!

  2. Mish says:

Hi! Is there a way to bypass the text message verification? I really don’t want to start getting a million messages on my phone from yahoo, but I would love to do a bracket! Thanks!

  3. Lauren says:

I wish you would use ESPN instead of Yahoo. I hate having to set up another email account just to create a bracket

    • Belle says:

Hi, I know it’s a pain, I have brackets on multiple services too. We use Yahoo because when I started this three years ago, it was the only service that didn’t cap the number of people in your pool. Sorry for the inconvenience.

  4. Emilie says:

Hi Belle, I’m having trouble getting the link to open. Right now the HTML text links to: https://y.ahoo.it/tzDEfPoz but none of my browsers are reading it as a valid address. Any chance the link is wrong?

    • Belle says:

Seems to be working, and a hundred or so people have signed up, so I think the link is good. If you email me at the capitolhillstyle gmail, I can send you an invite with a link in it.

  5. Joules says:

I’m super excited for this! Thanks for putting it on! 🙂

  6. Lindsay K says:

    Hi Belle-

When I look at my bracket, in the upper left it shows Pools: Capitol Hill Style Pool. However, I don’t see my name or bracket on the leaderboard. Should I be able to see myself? My bracket name is Lindsay K- GO DUKE!GTHC!

    • Belle says:

Someone else emailed me the same question. I’m not sure how to check this out, but let me see what I can figure out.

      • Dvora W. says:

        Hi Belle,
I’m having the same problem as Lindsay – when you figure it out what’s going on, can you please let me know? My bracket name is pretty boring, Dvora’s Bracket.

        Thanks!!

        • Belle says:

I know some of you have mentioned that you can’t “see” your bracket in the list of brackets in the pool. I tried to check a few, but Yahoo! will only let me see the first 50 brackets in the pool of 384. I’ll keep working on a solution, but if your bracket says it’s part of the pool, I have no reason to disbelieve that it is.

Do the winners get to share what they purchased in a post? I’m curious what basketball fans/fashion blog followers would shop for…
