For Casual Monday. At first, I wanted to pair this chunky knit sweater with a tweed skirt. But due to the heaviness of the sweater, you really do need a smoother, lighter skirt to make it work. This Telegraph Pencil from J.Crew is a bit longer and higher waisted than their standard pencil to help balance out the sweater.
If you’d like a navy skirt in a specialty size, I found this seasonless wool skirt from Pendleton comes in petites and plus-sizes.
To keep with the 2-out-of-3 Rule, I paired navy tights with the navy skirt. I then added a pair of burgundy boots from Piperlime. If you prefer a pump to a boot, check out these round-toe Sammi heels. Completing the look, I added a chocolate satchel and a camel wool trench. If Burberry is out of your price range, this London Fog trench has a similar look for 1/5th the price.
As for styling, I see the sweater being work with the sleeves pushed up and a chunky bracelet (or a couple of them) worn on one wrist. I chose this green bracelet to coordinate with the burgundy boots.
For the Weekend. I love a duffle coat for fall and winter. It’s preppy style is timeless, and this Topshop coat is a great option. However, if you’re not feeling the wooden toggles, this ASOS Bonded Coat uses rope ones. And if you’d like something longer to bundle up in, this Sierra Trading Post coat should fit the bill.
I added the plaid scarf because the shades of yellow and red and navy made it a must have. It really suits the coat and pairs well with the sweater when worn solo. If you’d like a different color combination, however, I found this navy, purple and grey wrap from Nordstrom to be a good choice as well.
To coordinate with the scarf, I chose this red cross body bag. I love the smaller bags for weekends when I don’t need to carry as much. If you prefer a red satchel, this Blake bag from Milly has really captured my heart. Or you could go with something in brown like this sturdy IIIBeca satchel for $107.
I chose a pair of simple skinny jeans from AE, but as I’ve mentioned before, my favorite skinny jeans are Paige denim Skylines. And I finished the look with these Parker boots currently on extended markdown at J.Crew. Should you be in the market for a tall boot, try these Steve Madden Albany boots.
For the hair, it’s really dealer’s choice, but given that there’s a scarf in play, I’d wear mine in a teased ponytail. For the makeup, I’d choose something neutral and natural. I really like Maybelline Color Tattoo shadow in Tough as Taupe for an easy long-wearing eye look.
