Two Ways: Tuxedo Jackets for Day and Night

For the Office, Jacket: Zara Tuxedo Jacket ($119) Dress: Tahari Seamed Dress ($83) Ring: Miss Havisham Ring ($145) Belt: Express Metal Trimmed Belt ($18) Shoes: Adrienne Vittadini Cecelia Pumps ($99) Bag: Zara Structured Bowler ($90) Tights: Spanx Blackout Tights ($42)

For a Holiday Party, Jacket: Walter Baker White Tux Jacket ($188) Top: Alice + Olivia Sequin Bustier ($145) Earrings: Foxy Art Deco Earrings ($35) Bag: Tai Box Clutch ($98) Lipstick: Kate Moss Red Lipstick ($12) Pants: J.Crew Minnie Pant ($118) Ring: Rachel Deco Ring ($125) Shoes: Zara Stone Block Heel ($99)

Today, I thought I would try something a bit different with the Two Ways.  As you can see, it’s organized in a slightly different way, and instead of showing the same jacket, I chose to show a white and a black tuxedo jacket.

For the Office.  Wearing a blazer with a dress is always tricky.  For this outfit, I chose a seamed Tahari dress with a cool neckline and belted it with a simple, flat-front belt from Express.  This breaks up the visual line of the dress and provides structure and an accent to complete the look.

If teal isn’t your color, try this cobalt BCBG dress with a modern neckline or this burgundy Preston & York dress with a leather accent at the waist instead of a belt.   Plus-size?  This burgundy Spense dress is a great option.

I chose to pair this outfit with t-strap pumps for a vintage vibe.  If that’s not your cup of tea, I would suggest a simple round-toe pumps or a an ankle boot like this Nine West Brettly shoe.

Because I didn’t want to go all black with the accessories, I chose this gray bag with black trim from Zara.  I actually looked at this in the store this weekend, and it is awesome.  The materials feel nice to the touch and it looked well-made.  If you prefer the all black look, I would choose a bag with a cool shape like this phenomenal Onelia bag from Mackage or this inexpensive Forever 21 Standout Satchel.

For the makeup, I would wear a berry-colored polish, like OPI Bogota Blackberry, and a thin black liner like Maybelline Line Stiletto.  For the hair, I would offer two options: If you’re looking to relax the look, wear your hair down.  If you are looking to really glam it up because you have a holiday event after work or a date, wear it up in a messy low bun.

For a Holiday Party.  What woman doesn’t need a sequin bustier?  What?  It’s nice to mix it up once in a while, and I thought this top might be a good way to step outside the comfort zone and embrace your inner glamazon.  Like the idea but not sure about the sequins?  Intermix has a simple seamed bustier for $99.

If the bustier still isn’t for you, try a sequin tank instead.  I found this $59 at Banana Republic for misses and petite ladies.  Plus-size readers should look at this Neiman Marcus scoopneck tank.

I chose a skinny pant for this outfit, because that seems to be what everyone wants to wear these days.  However, if you prefer a wider leg, these black wide-leg pants from Halogen are a good option too.

The accessories are modern art deco.  The earrings and ring have classic art deco shapes with simple details.  The clutch has a vintage-looking mix of black lace and ivory satin with a jewel clasp.  Should you want to mix in some color with your deco, try these lipstick red Kenneth Jay Lane drops.

For the hair, I would wear it up in either a classic French Twist or a glamorous low chignon.  For the makeup, I would def. go with red lipstick, and this Kate Moss shade is my new favorite.  I would also make sure to highlight and contour, like in this tutorial.

The bustier is a cute idea but I have my doubts. Is it supposed to be cropped or full length?

    • Belle says:

Unsure. I think that depends on the length of your torso, but it shouldn’t be too hard to find a full length one, the intermix one looked pretty long to me.

  2. I looove the Bustier. It looks like something I’d want to wear on NYE. Great find!

Belle, I love your fashion but I have to say that tux style jacket at the office is a faux pas. It is too formal, and evokes a very evening feeling. That has no place in a daytime office. I think it could work for day outside the office, but seems out of keeping with professional attire to me.

Love the Adrienne Vittadini Cecelia Pumps. I just picked them up at TJMaxx in Georgetown for $30. Check it out if you want to save some money!

The Mondays: March 18, 2024

This weekend was a tricky one. The warm weather and bright sunshine of last weekend disappeared in a flurry of wet snow trapping our very active 18-month-old in the house with us. Plus, our babysitter cancelled, so neither of us feels ready for the week ahead. But in between making mac-and-cheese and watching Aristocats for […]
