For the Weekend.  I chose to style this sweatshirt for the weekend, but I think it would work for casual Friday in most offices.  I’d just switch out the jeans for a trouser fit or a straight leg pair.

I mixed the embellished blouse with a sleek striped button up for a slightly preppy look.  If the stripes aren’t your thing, you could also go with a basic white button up, like this one from Brooks Brothers, on sale for $46.  You could also wear a colored one.  I prefer the look of this classic pale blue.

I didn’t want the accessories for this outfit to be over-the-top, but I wanted them to stand out.  This silver, metallic crossbody makes a statement for sure, but if you’d like something similar for less, try this silver BCBGeneration tote or this American Rag double zip bag.  I also added a chunky, silver watch and a silver ring with a hint of burgundy in it to coordinate with the shoes.

Burgundy flats are on my to-buy list for fall.  They’re a chic alternative to lipstick red.  These Matt Bernson pointed-toes are nice, but I’m also looking at these less expensive ankle strap flats from Gabrielle Rocha.

For the hair, I would wear it up in a loose, low bun or Gibson roll.  For the makeup, I would keep it neutral with a rosy cheek and some Clinique Black Honey on my lips.

For Dinner with Friends.  The boxy cut of this sweatshirt would look best with sleeker separates.  You need the proportion of a sleek pencil skirt or snug trousers to make it look intentional instead of bloated and sloppy.  So this pine green pencil is the perfect complement. If green isn’t your preference, try this burgundy Jones New York pencil or bring in some autumn color with this pumpkin orange Dorothy Perkins skirt.

I’ve been mixing a lot of green with burgundy lately, so I thought that I would bring in some sapphire blue instead.  This Merkin clutch is a piece that could be carried now or in summer, but if you want some more edge, try this Pour la Victoire clutch with side zips.

The earrings coordinate with the clutch thanks to some sapphire-colored crystals in the pave.  Sadly, these Bittar drops are out of my price range.  The Urban Stone faceted earrings have a similar mix of colors, as do these Sorrelli deco drop earrings.

For the hair, I would wear it in a low, messy side-bun.  For the makeup, I would choose a grey smoky eye with black liner and glossy blackberry shade on my lips, like Becca gloss in berry-twist.
