Skirt: Double Serge Wool Pencil ($130 + 25%-off, code SHOPFALL)

From Left, Ring: Banana Republic Pyramid Ring ($40) Bag: Vince Camuto Riley Satchel ($278) Shoes: Vino Embossed Pumps ($325) Top: Iris & Ink Bow Blouse ($125) Jacket: OdlR Pleated Tweed Jacket ($695)

From Right, Coat: Reiss Camel Overcoat ($660) Earrings: Lake Tahoe Button Earrings ($26) Bracelet: Gold Wrap Cuff ($21) Bag: It’s a Pleasure Bag ($63) Shoes: Ann Taylor Haircalf Heel ($138) Scarf: Refined Silk-Cashmere Wrap ($75) Sweater: Tippi Merino Sweater ($80)

For the Office. When wearing a dark green suit, you can pair it with neutrals or with color.  This outfit uses navy to bridge the gap.  Navy is not as boring as black or brown, but not so adventurous that it would stand out in a conservative office.  Want a bit more color?  Try eggplant or rust instead.

I wanted to pair this skirt with a textured jacket like tweed or boucle.  This OdlR jacket is to die for, but who has the money for that?  This Cremieux jacket from Dillard’s has a classic cut and no embellishments.  For plus-size ladies, this indigo jacket from Eileen Fisher is the closest substitute.

For the accessories, I went with graphite grey.  The darker hue is substantial enough to stand up to the navy and pine colors in the outfit, but not as heavy as black.  It also coordinates better than my other option, chocolate brown.  I adore these shoes from Elizabeth and James.  The pattern in the leather is great, as is the block heel.  If you need a cheaper pair, the Nine West ‘Austin’ pump has a similar color in a traditional heel.

Lastly, I added a pyramid ring just to have one substantial piece of jewelry balancing out the look.  I also liked this $18 circle ring from GlamBoutique if you want something a bit airier.

For the hair, I would wear it down, as a bun or tight twist might be too severe.  If you must wear it up, try something feminine and light, like a side bun or a messy, wavy updo.  For the makeup, I’d choose a dark berry nail (OPI Bogota Blackberry is my staple) and a sheer plum lip with black gel eyeliner.

For Casual Monday.  The Office look is dark, so for a more casual approach, try ivory.  If wearing a whiter shade of pale to work makes you nervous about spills, swap out these pieces for a grey Tippi sweater and a pale grey scarf or, if you want to wear leopard pumps, a tan sweater and tan scarf.

The shoes for this outfit are awesome.  The black leather toe cap makes the leopard pumps more approachable for women who might eschew animal prints.  They’re also super comfortable, and did I mention 30%-off?  You really can’t find a better shoe for the price.

Because we have a black toe cap, we have a black bag.  This top-handled briefcase style would be great for the office.  It also has a shoulder strap in case you need one.  You could also go with a traditional satchel (Minkoff Mini-MAB forever!).  Looking for something under-$150?  I couldn’t take my eye off this Aldo Sugimoto satchel.

As you know, I like to wear pearl earrings with ivory scarves to light up the face.  However, traditional pearls didn’t feel right here, so I chose a pair ringed with gold in an imperfect shape.  I also adore this cuff from Lori’s Shoes.  I couldn’t hope for anything better for under-$25.

I finished off the look with a camel coat.  Love the color but not the price?  This Anne Klein coat comes in a few colors, including camel, for $179.  And this Nine West coat with a classic cut comes in camel and several other great fall colors for $139. I’m smitten with the light grey.

For the hair, I would wear it up since there’s a scarf involved.  A bouncy, bouffant ponytail would be nice.  For the makeup, I would go with a punchy, lipstick red.  MAC Ruby Woo is my favorite, and OPI Red on the nails.

Thanks for the tips Belle, I’m a new reader but really enjoy your blog. Embarassingly enough I just bought the animal print Ann Taylor heels AND the perfect black pumps just after reading this post. You should let Ms. Taylor know you’re drumming up business for her. Both pairs for only $150 after shipping!

For some reason, the skirt is $98 (+ 25% off) in stores. You might be able to get the one of the customer service people at j.crew.com to honor the lower price.

The Find: A Striped Tee

Without question, the most worn item in my wardrobe is a black-and-white striped tee. I wear it in winter under sweaters, in spring with white jeans, in summer with black shorts. I’ve been wearing the same one for years (it’s the best). But they don’t make it anymore. So here are some options for replacement.

The Find: Like a McCall’s Pattern

When I was young, my Mother used to bring me along when she would go shopping for fabric. As a result, I spent a lot of time, killing time, flipping through pattern books. So when I spotted this dress, I was instantly transported to the pattern table at a Jo-Ann Fabrics.
