Two Ways: Zara Plush Dress

Dress: Zara Plush Dress ($59)

From Left, Coat: Zara Trench ($139) Bracelets: Minkoff Chevron Bracelets ($138) Belt: Skinny Lucite Belt ($98) Bag: Bettina Satchel ($250) Shoes: ASOS Ponder Heel ($52)

From Right, Sunglasses: Ray Ban Aviators ($145) Ring: Jules Smith Allie Ring ($65) Bag: Minkoff Mini-Mab ($195) Boots: Clark’s Vesta Boot ($70) Scarf: FCUK Water Flower Scarf ($78) Coat: AE Surplus Anorak ($90)

For the Office. Clean, classic, easy–that’s how I would describe this look.  It’s the kind of stylish outfit that you could throw on when you’re running late and no one would know that you got ready in 20 minutes.

I’m not such a big fan of lucite, but I love this belt.  The buckle takes a classic piece and makes it trendy without being unapproachable.  However, if you prefer something more traditional, this skinny snakeskin belt from Gap packs a lot of style for $29.

With bare arms, I always like to add a bracelet.  These Minkoff cuffs are a cool shape that adds something extra to the look.  I also liked this labradorite bracelet from Melinda Maria or these stack bangles from Chamak for $48.

The shoes are pure awesome, especially at that price.  And what can I say about this bag?  It’s a great color combination for the fall transition and so lovely.  But if you’re in the market for something less expensive, this Fiorelli winged tote is to die for at $100.

This Zara trench (also in black) looks like a good buy.  However, the J.Crew Icon trench is still my favorite.  It’s one of the few pieces they’re making right now that I can recommend without reservation.

For the hair, I would wear it up in a twisted bun.  For the makeup, I would go with a palette of berry shades.  OPI Casino Royale on the fingers and Clinique Black Honey on the lips.

For Saturday Brunch.  I love fall, because I love boots and I love layering.  This outfit combines those two things into one stylish outfit for a weekend brunch date or maybe a casual Friday at the office.

This anorak is a great (GREAT!) buy at $98.  You get to indulge in the olive jacket trend without spending a fortune.  If you’re feeling more adventurous, try this Ambition military-style vest for $68.  I also added a soft, floral scarf to play off the military-inspired vest.  I like the way they coordinate but contrast at the same time.

The bag is the MAB Clutch in one of Minkoff’s new fall colors, a gorgeous plum.  I’m truly smitten with it.  Looking for a less expensive crossbody in a similar color? Try this Topshop flap satchel for $56.

I debated between a grey boot and a cognac one for a while and ultimately decided on the brown.  Cognac is a versatile choice if you’re looking for a fall boot because it goes with every shade from black to white.  But these gray Rag & Bone boots made that a tough decision.

For the hair, I would wear it in a ponytail.  Something teased at the crown and a touch messy.  For the makeup, I would wear rich purple lip, like Stila Balm in Gemma, and a rosy cheek.  And do.not.forget the black eyeliner.

I love the Sunday outfit. Those olive jackets are a great look.

I happen to have a jacket of a similar cut and length– but mine’s like an actual men’s jacket from an army surplus store leftover from my teen days. I’m going to see if I can get it out and make it look cool with styling like this. Think it can be done? Or will I just go back to looking like the girl from Freaks & Geeks? We’ll have to see. If I can pull it off, I will feel so victorious! It’d be a shop-your-closet coup.

Hi Belle, do you own this dress personally? I am wondering if it would look ok with a collared shirt underneath come fall (for work). What are your thoughts?

  3. KLV says:

Hi Belle — Thoughts on pairing the dress with the Anneke from Sole Society instead of the Asos heel for the office? I’m about to bite the bullet on them and would love if they’d work for this as well.

Beauty Review: Bondi Boost

As I age, I notice many changes in my body. Most are fine. Some are frustrating. Like many women, I lost a lot of hair in my postpartum phase. Being anemic for more than a year after, it didn’t grow back in to its former glory. So I’ve tried any number of shampoos, pills and […]

The Mondays: March 18, 2024

This weekend was a tricky one. The warm weather and bright sunshine of last weekend disappeared in a flurry of wet snow trapping our very active 18-month-old in the house with us. Plus, our babysitter cancelled, so neither of us feels ready for the week ahead. But in between making mac-and-cheese and watching Aristocats for […]
