Ann Taylor Ponte Flounce Dress ($139)

This week, let’s talk about dresses for fall in the under-$150 price range, starting with this fabulous flounce dress from Ann Taylor.  Add a blazer and belt, and the dress is right for the office.  Put on a great bracelet and some chic black pumps, and it’s perfect for a dinner out.

Like the flounce? This square neck BCBG dress is pretty, as is this 3/4 sleeve Milly dress.  And if you’re a size 10 or 12, you can pick up this white, sleeveless Erin Fetherston dress for a song.

Flounce skirts are also on trend for fall for the second year.  Ann Taylor is offering theirs in midnight blue twill.  The Club Monaco Darby skirt is still my favorite.  And if you’re looking to indulge in this trend for less than $20, this Limited skirt and this Forever 21 skirt should do the trick.

Plus-size? This DKNY dress is pretty fab, and this back flounce skirt from Land’s End is great.  Petite?  The Ann Taylor dress comes in petite, as does this mid-thigh length Gap skirt.

This featured Ann Taylor dress is gorgeous in the picture but it’s short on. I’m 5’10ish and the tall still came more than an inch above my knees. I returned the dress because it was cut straighter than I expected and too loose in the waist on me.

belle, there are 15 affiliate links on this post and just one photo. i know you put a lot of time into creating (generally quite good) content for a free blog, and i don’t generally mind affiliate links, but you’ve reached the point where you’re abandoning readability in favor of making money. as a long time reader, it’s frustrating.

    • Kati says:

I disagree. No one is forcing readers to click the links. She put up a great dress and I don’t need more reccs so I don’t click. It’s up to readers to decide whether they want to put money in Belle’s pocket or not.

  3. M says:

Belle- would you wear the belt under or over the jacket?

  4. Capitol Hill SE says:

I just ordered the Limited skirt last week– it’s a steal! I have several of their plain ponte pencil skirts and it will be nice to have one with the flounce detail.

  5. Ashley says:

The virus scanner on my computer at work blocks the links, stating that the links are infected with a trojan virus.

  6. LM says:

Am I the only person that thinks this dress is hideous? I can handle flounce skirts but this dress…

    • B says:

I don’t like it either. But I can’t even handle flounce skirts, so maybe that’s just me. I think they look too girly to be professional.

Beauty Review: Bondi Boost

As I age, I notice many changes in my body. Most are fine. Some are frustrating. Like many women, I lost a lot of hair in my postpartum phase. Being anemic for more than a year after, it didn’t grow back in to its former glory. So I’ve tried any number of shampoos, pills and […]

The Mondays: March 18, 2024

This weekend was a tricky one. The warm weather and bright sunshine of last weekend disappeared in a flurry of wet snow trapping our very active 18-month-old in the house with us. Plus, our babysitter cancelled, so neither of us feels ready for the week ahead. But in between making mac-and-cheese and watching Aristocats for […]
