From Right, Earrings: Jules Smith Hoops ($80) Ring: Robyn Rhodes Agate Ring ($100) Bag: Georgie Weekender ($128) Top: Majestic Scoop Tee ($80) Jeans: Paige Skyline ($158) Sweater: Women’s Drape Cardi (15 GBP)

For Casual Friday.  On a rainy recess day, a cotton dress, a lightweight scarf and a pair of flats is my go-to outfit.  While there’s no way to tell whether this dress is a work-appropriate length (Mango has notoriously tall models), I love the wider stripe.

This Brigette striped dress is also a great choice.  I also like the leather detail on this Ella Moss dress, and the fit-and-flare cut on this American Eagle dress is fun.  If you’re looking for something less casual in a stripe, try this Ralph Lauren dress with the knotted waist.

Plus-size ladies will like this cowl-neck Modcloth dress and this Elementz t-shirt dress.  Petite ladies might like this striped maxi dress from Gap and this DKNY half-sleeve dress is a stunner.

For the lightweight scarf, I chose an inexpensive Forever21 number in navy.  You could also do a small print, like this Banana Republic anchor scarf.

I added this cool engraved bangle from Madewell that is great layered with other bracelets as a stand alone.  If you want something more traditional, try an Alexis Bittar bangle with delicate lines.

For the hair, I would wear a high ponytail with teasing at the crown.  For the makeup, I would wear a raspberry polish, like Essie Sure Shot to coordinate with the shoes, and some bronzer to brighten my complexion on a dreary day.

For a Train Trip.  I love train travel on Acela, but boy, does Amtrak love air conditioning.  I paired these colorful flats with an outfit of neutral, cozy basics to start comfortable and warm on the trip.

I love this open cardigan from Uniqlo.  I also like this sheer, open cardi from LOFT and this White + Warren cashmere cardi. White + Warren is a great brand for quality knits, look for their sales at Bluefly or on Gilt.

For an underlayer, I chose a scoop neck t-shirt.  I think scoop necks are more flattering on most women than a crewneck.  This James Perse Scoopneck has a more demure neckline and this Karen Kane tee is a great buy at $27.

The accessories looked more fitting in a white metal, so I chose a casual hoop and this agate slice ring.  I might also add a plain silver ring to my other hand; this Adina Reyter square ring fits the bill.  And the bag is a lovely weekender that mixes navy trim with a snakeskin-like print.  Want something more basic? Try this Marc Jacobs Preppy Weekender in black or a Lo & Sons bag.

For the hair, I would wear it down in waves or in a low braid.  For the makeup, I would add some color to my lips with a raspberry matte lipstick, like Nars Velvet Pencil in Never Say Never, and a rosy cheek.

The Range: Spring Blouses for Work (or Zoom)

Since Sloane was born, I’ve fallen hard into a black, white, and blue wardrobe. This is not necessarily a bad thing, but as spring blooms, I need a little color in my wardrobe (and probably a little print too). Here are a few tops that caught my eye for work.
