Two Ways: Black Quilted Sheath

Dress: Dorothy Perkins Quilted Sheath ($59)

From Left, Necklace: K. Amato Black Multi-Strand Necklace ($88) Bag: VC Alba Tech Bag ($298) Shoes: Hitendril Bar Shoe ($289) Jacket: Pappell Fringe Tweed Jacket ($81)

From Right, Sunglasses: Ray-Ban Aviators ($145) Bracelets: Rebecca Minkoff Stackable Cuffs ($138) Shoes: Dolce Vita Zen Flat ($79) Scarf: Fossil Pencil Scarf ($68) Bag: Dakota Zipper Tote ($60)

For the Office. A simple sheath can be dressed up in as many ways as you can dream up.  For this ensemble, I paired the dress with a collarless blazer for a clean look.  (Note the complementary necklines.)

Looking for a similar blazer? I also like this Classiques Entier jacket in aqua with black leather trim.  For plus size ladies, try this Nipon floral print, and petites should look at this white blazer from Banana Republic.

I added this turquoise necklace for a bit of color.  I also loved the mix of textures with the different beads.  Looking for something cheaper?  Try this Hive & Honey Moroccan-inspired necklace ($26), or this Pim and Larkin necklace ($46).

I adore this flap satchel.  It also comes in a great medium tan that I think I might buy for fall.  And these shoes are just sumptuous.  If you’d like a similar shoe in a lower price point, these calfskin and suede peep-toes are just over $100, and these $49 patent t-straps from JCPenney.

For the hair, I would wear it up in a low bun.  For the makeup, I would wear black eyeliner and a rose blush with a mauve nail like Essie Angora Cardi.

For Sunday Brunch.  Originally, I created a second outfit for dinner with a long turquoise and blue necklace, a blue clutch and an ankle sandal, but it didn’t speak to me.  It felt flat on the page.  This outfit, however, feels more current and organic.  Much more vibrant.

I chose this pattern scarf because I like the angular lines and the mix of colors in the print.  Then, I paired the green in the pattern with this verdant bag with braided details.  If this is more color than you were looking for, try this Hat Attack gray and black ombre scarf and a charcoal bag instead.

Finish off the look with a pair of aviators, a cool strappy sandal and a pair of sweet bangles and the look is complete.  (Again the angles in the scarf pair with the angular shape of the bracelet.)  Not feeling the price on the bracelets?  Try this $5 chevron bangle set from Forever21.

For the hair, I’m feeling a slightly undone side ponytail or a knotted pony.  For the makeup, a hint of purple on the lips, like Stila Balm in Gemma, and a spritz of citrus perfume, like Fresh Citron de Vigne, completes the look.

LOVE the “For the Office” outfit!
PS: will you be posting the outfits using the lace shell? I’d love to see how you would remix that piece!

I was wracking my brain this week trying to think of ways to style my black sheath dress. Thanks for the ideas!

Sheath dresses are “all business” for me, I can’t see myself wearing one for Sunday brunch.
If I found a similar a-line dress, though; I would rock this suggestion.

The Find: A Striped Tee

Without question, the most worn item in my wardrobe is a black-and-white striped tee. I wear it in winter under sweaters, in spring with white jeans, in summer with black shorts. I’ve been wearing the same one for years (it’s the best). But they don’t make it anymore. So here are some options for replacement.

The Find: Like a McCall’s Pattern

When I was young, my Mother used to bring me along when she would go shopping for fabric. As a result, I spent a lot of time, killing time, flipping through pattern books. So when I spotted this dress, I was instantly transported to the pattern table at a Jo-Ann Fabrics.
