10th Commandment: July 23

Dorothy Perkins Quilted Panel Dress ($59)

Sometimes I search for a 10th Commandment item for hours, but the second I spotted this simple black sheath, I knew it was the one.  The simplicity of the cut makes it the perfect canvas for creating an outfit.

Also at Dorothy Perkins, I found this Billie and Blossom black dress with leather accents.  This capped sleeve dress is also a good choice, and I like this midi-length tube dress a lot, but probably not for work.  My favorite, however, is this $35 dress with a simple black-knot detail.

If you have more money to spend, I like this sleeveless sheath from Hugo Boss a lot.

Plus-size: I found this Tahari dress at Lord & Taylor.  Petite: This simple black dress from Merona is a good choice.

I’m not sure how I never knew about Dorothy Perkins before, but I’m glad I do now! Can’t wait for my new dress to arrive…

  2. SLG says:

Anyone have tips about Dorothy Perkins sizing? It looks like they don’t have free shipping for returns. It would be so nice to know I was ordering the right size, rather than have to ship a dress than didn’t fit back to the UK.

  3. MidWestChic says:

Ditto to SLG. I’d love some insight on sizing. I’ve seen MANY clothes I love at DP, but also don’t want to have to ship back to the UK.

  4. Lynn says:

dumb question, but what is the meaning behind 10th commandment?

    • Belle says:

It’s sort of a play on “Thou Shalt Not Covet” by pairing covetous pricey pieces with less expensive, attainable fashions.

  5. Erin H says:

I have the petite merona dress in 2 colors (black and blue) and I love it! It’s super flattering and well-cut.

  6. Heather says:

I’m reporting back on the quality of the Billie and Blossom black dress with faux leather accents from Dorothy Perkins. It’s a matte jersey fabric and fits really well. It feels like it will breathe and transition nicely weather-wise. It was definitely a great grab at $35 when you consider that there was no tax and the shipping was about $12 or free when you spend $50. So, instead of spending $47 for the shipped dress, I spent $50 and got the dress, a pair of socks, and two skinny belts. VERY happy.

  7. Heather says:

Oh, SLG, there WAS a return label in my package, so I could have sent it back… don’t know if the cost of the shipping would have been taken off my refund, though.

  8. Sara says:

I am “behind the times”, but I am excited because I ordered the “knot dress” (and a few tops) on sale and I am hoping that it fits. I am excited to see it when it comes. I looked at the returns, and it looks like you can return it and get a refund as long as you send things back within two weeks and as long as they are still in pristine shape. Looks like a great company and I loved looking at the clothes on the site. Thank you for sharing!

Business Casual Outfit: Linen Closet

And just like that, it’s April. Summer is almost upon us, and the retailers are filled with linen wares. Now, you know that I am usually unwilling to wear linen to work due to the wrinkles. But in this post-pandemic world, perhaps my mind can change.
