Afyon Tailored Dress by Roland Mouret ($1,746) // 7. Distressed Toothpick Jean ($135) // 8. Crystal Orbit Bracelet ($50) // 9. Bonnie Satchel ($387)

Whether we’re ready for them or not, the fall fashions will be in the stores soon.  I’ve been contemplating my transition wardrobe–the pieces I’d like to buy for the cooler, but still warm days of September and October–so that I can avoid thinking about wool sweaters and cashmere coats.  Here are a few pieces that caught my eye.

One.  I love the neutral palette on these block heel pumps.  The mix of tan, dove grey and black make them the perfect shoe for the evening or daytime look of your choice.  I think they’d look amazing with an off-white dress.  These inexpensive block heel sandals from Victoria’s Secret are also nice, and this Guess style has limited sizes, but the style is cool.

Two. I have a long white collarless coat from Zara that I wear a lot.  This black one is lovely as well.  The crinkle-cotton fabric on this blue coat is fabulous, and this vibrant green coat is definitely on my wish list.  Prefer a short coat? Try this white Mango blazer.

Three. The mix of yellow and white metal on this set of rings is versatile and chic.  I love the labradorite stone and the mix of textures with the cable band.  These Belargo stack ring set is more traditional, and these under-$25 tri-tone bands give you the twisted look in yellow, white and rose gold.

Four. I’ve been on the hunt for nail polish colors that are a bit more mature.  I’d like something in between the dark Tokaido Express shade I wear in winter and the pretty pinks of spring.  I like Deborah Lippman Modern Love, with its soft mauve color, but it’s not quite dark enough.  So I’m hoping that this shade from butter LONDON will be a better fit.

Five. After the graphic tee post on Friday, I thought this top was a nice alternative to a boldly printed tee.  I also like the geometric pattern on this Stella McCartney t-shirt, and this under-$20 tee has bold colors that would look lovely in any season.

Plus-size? Check out this Baroque print top or this blue and orange printed one.  Petite? This inexpensive dot-print tee is nice, and this medallion-print tee from Banana Republic top is a good choice.

Six. Roland Mouret may be significantly out of my price range, but window-shopping is free.  The closest brand in an under-$500 price point is probably Black Halo or 4. Collective.  This colorblock sheath is much less expensive, and this Ann Taylor sheath comes in the same soft grey.  But this Reiss dress is probably the closest.

Seven. I had a pair of great distressed jeans from J.Crew, but I left them in a hotel room in Montana.  Good times.  This pair has a slightly higher rise for those of us who no longer consider low-rise a viable option.

If you’re looking for a less expensive pair, try these jeans from Bluefly.  Plus-size? Try these American Rag jeans. Petite? Try these LOFT boyfriend jeans.

Eight. This shiny, skinny bracelet would look great in a stack.  But if you’re searching for something more substantial, try this versatile bracelet with white and yellow metal and a hint of crystal.

Nine. The Rebecca Minkoff sale section is loaded with chic handbags.  This woven dusty pink bag for starters.  This simple tote is also fantastic, as is this studded Affair chain clutch.

Belle, I would love to get your advice on how to style a pair of distressed jeans. I’m never quite sure how to pull that look together and not look like I’m trying too hard.

Also, I’m a big fan of the more mild (?), subtle (?) distressing on these jeans that you feature than the ones that look like they’re falling apart at the seams.

  2. Rory says:

If you like the Toff polish but not the price, it’s near identical to Essie’s Angora Cardi.

  3. Anon says:

Is it just me, or is anyone else only getting about one quarter (the top quarter) of the image for the round-up?

  4. Ginger R. says:

I’m not a huge Royal watcher, but I do enjoy seeing the Queen and Duchess of Cambridge’s outerwear. Those ladies have the best wardrobes of coats! One of my favorites of the pregnant Duchess was the light pink collarless coat.
I bought a collarless coat at Uniqlo this Spring. I like the spare look. The collarless neck is great for showing off a scarf. I’ll definitely consider a fall version.

Beauty Review: Bondi Boost

As I age, I notice many changes in my body. Most are fine. Some are frustrating. Like many women, I lost a lot of hair in my postpartum phase. Being anemic for more than a year after, it didn’t grow back in to its former glory. So I’ve tried any number of shampoos, pills and […]

The Mondays: March 18, 2024

This weekend was a tricky one. The warm weather and bright sunshine of last weekend disappeared in a flurry of wet snow trapping our very active 18-month-old in the house with us. Plus, our babysitter cancelled, so neither of us feels ready for the week ahead. But in between making mac-and-cheese and watching Aristocats for […]
