+ Look for Less

10th Commandment: June 28

I’ve been searching for a soft, breezy maxi dress for awhile now.  I purchased this dress from Ann Taylor a few weeks ago, and while it’s beautiful and bright, the fabric quality was like a trash bag.  When I moved, the dress actually sounded like I was crinkling paper. So the search continues.

I love the look of this dress.  And it comes in six gorgeous, muted colors.  I think I may give this one a try.

Plus-size ladies should have a look at this verdant tank dress.  Petite readers might like this jersey dress from Ann Taylor.

What a bummer about that Anne Taylor dress, it’s so pretty. I too have been searching for awhile for a new maxi dress. I wanted something in a petite length so I wouldn’t have to hem it or only be able to wear it with heels, a bright color and preferably something with enough coverage for a regular bra. I finally found a dress I loved at Macy’s

How do you feel about short ladies in maxis, Belle?

I am not Belle, but I am short! I stick to maxis in a single color, or with a very minimal stripe or pattern, and make sure they are slim cut and not too fussy. Jersey dresses skim the body better than the billowy cotton styles. The petite Ann Taylor dress that Belle linked to has a little too much fussy fabric at the top that can easily overwhelm a short body…I would stick to a simpler scoop neck/tank top style on top. Jean at Extra Petite has good tips as well: https://www.extrapetite.com/2013/04/20-striped-maxi-dress-find-your.html and I know that Belle loves Jean’s blog!

You can pull them off, it just takes more work to find one that looks good. Here are some dos and don’ts. https://bellapetite.com/top-five-list-dos-and-donts-of-wearing-dresses-for-petite-women.html

I bought a cross-back maxi similar to the Alternative Apparel one at Loft the other day (on sale) and I really like it. Slit on one side, 100% cotton. Only had it in grey though.

Belle, try Mango. Big selection of maxis although some of their maxis span into evenigg wear. I also had decent luck w Splendid and american apparel maxis

I found a great MaxStudio maxi at Nordstrom Rack yesterday – the style is exactly what i was looking for (v neck, pretty detailing, straps that i can wear a regular bra with)…I was hoping for a bright color but it only came in black, i still snagged it because it seems finding a maxi i dont need to wear a strapless bra with is next to impossible.

I really like the Gabriella Rocha maxi, and 6pm.com has them on sale. There are other nice colors on Zappos.
