Splendid 1×1 Scoopneck Tee ($46)

This weekend, I was walking around my neighborhood and I noticed a lot of women wearing the same outfit: t-shirt, khaki shorts, sandals.  And I saw a lot of ladies who were in desperate need of a t-shirt intervention.

I love a soft cotton t-shirt, but there are so many bad ones out there.  And not all t-shirts are created equal.  Most are cut too boxy or they’re too sheer.  Some women are wearing their tees too tight, others are wearing shirts that are long past their prime and faded or stretched with age.

A great fitting, crisp cotton t-shirt is a classic, but only if you choose the right t-shirt.

Splendid is my favorite brand because the tees are soft, cut well and last.  I also like the light scoopneck for just a bit of skin without going full v-neck.  Splendid makes this neckline in 3/4 sleeve tops and racerback tanks.

You don’t have to spend $46 to find a great looking tee.  Dorothy Perkins has this nearly identical t-shirt for $9.  Both Eddie Bauer and Sierra Trading Post have well-priced t-shirts that come in lots of great colors.  If you need something with a slightly more relaxed vibe, I’ve had good luck with t-shirts from Gap.

Petite? Land’s End makes this well-cut t-shirt.  Plus-size? Eddie Bauer makes a great t-shirt in silk-jersey.

Does anyone else have problems with 100% cotton t-shirts and cardigans getting loose and baggy by the end of a long day? I’ve started looking for ones that have at least a little spandex in them for this reason. I feel like this problem is slightly distinct from the issue of t-shirts losing their shape after multiple washes – for me, they consistently fit great when they just come out of the dryer, but throughout the day slowly get loose and start to look sad. This actually forces me to wash them *more* often than I normally would to get them to fit properly. (I would probably wash a t-shirt every time anyways, but for a basic like a cardigan, this gets annoying.)

I love white T-shirt but lately I have found most in the stores to be see through. The world doesn’t need to see my bra!

I would say double check the shirts from Eddie Baurer. I have two solid colored ones that lose their shape and the neckline seems to stretch out/ look strange easily. I have another one from them that performs much better (white with a screen print) but I would be careful.

I have been searching for a great white t-shirt forever…one that’s not sheer and just slouchy enough.

I tried Everlane recently for the first time, and I have to say, I love their tees.

I’ve found the best tees come from Lands’ End. They’re thick enough to not show my bra, come in amazing colors, and hold their shape.

Everlane makes the best tees for the best price, hands down.

Since Sloane was born, I’ve fallen hard into a black, white, and blue wardrobe. This is not necessarily a bad thing, but as spring blooms, I need a little color in my wardrobe (and probably a little print too). Here are a few tops that caught my eye for work.
