Mango White Pencil Skirt ($59)

I’m trying to close a disparity between the number of blouses I own and the number of skirts I own.  My hope is that if I can add a few stylish skirts to my wardrobe, I’ll be able to throw outfits together more quickly on busy mornings with fewer repeats.  I like this white pencil because it skims the knee, has a not-to-sexy for work slit and is fully lined.  Lining is very important when wearing white.

Not sure about the slit?  I still really like this notched hem skirt from The Limited ft. in last week’s post, and this basic white Limited pencil.  Banana Republic has this white sateen pencil.  And ASOS has this tulip-shape skirt with a wrap-effect on the side.

Want white but with a bit extra?  Macy’s has this pretty eyelet skirt for $48.  White House Black Market has this fan-tas-tic skirt with white and black dots, and The Limited has one with white and cream dots.

Plus size? Try this Jones of NY skirt.  Petite?  Ann Taylor has a good basic on the racks.

You really don’t think the slit is too high? You usually tend on the conservative side when it comes to dressing for work; the skirt doesn’t seem crazy or anything, but I am a little surprised. Belle’s getting sexy up in here!

    • Belle says:

If the slit were on the very front part of the leg, I might feel differently. But on the side, I think it’s at maximum height, but not too much.

      • Valerie says:

My only concern about the slit is that it shows leg to the upper thigh…I teach college students and don’t look more than a few years older than them, so it might send the wrong message.

  2. Aimee says:

I definitely wouldn’t wear a skirt with a slit like that to the office. It’s cute though!

  3. A Nonny Moose says:

Don’t like the side slit; to me it always looks like a back slit on a skirt that doesn’t fit and migrated around!

  4. Anon says:

That is way too high. If it moved to the center you would be flashing hanky pankys.

  5. Valerie says:

Has anyone gotten the JCrew cotton pencil skirt? https://www.jcrew.com/womens_category/skirts/pencil/PRDOVR~21325/21325.jsp

Debating getting that one but not sure whether to spend $100 on a work skirt from JCrew versus $60 for the Limited version. I also like the wider waistband on the Limited one. In my experience JCrew has better quality lining on skirts than Limited…this might have changed.

Agree. That slit would not fly in my office! I like the skirt though.

Beauty Review: Bondi Boost

As I age, I notice many changes in my body. Most are fine. Some are frustrating. Like many women, I lost a lot of hair in my postpartum phase. Being anemic for more than a year after, it didn’t grow back in to its former glory. So I’ve tried any number of shampoos, pills and […]

The Mondays: March 18, 2024

This weekend was a tricky one. The warm weather and bright sunshine of last weekend disappeared in a flurry of wet snow trapping our very active 18-month-old in the house with us. Plus, our babysitter cancelled, so neither of us feels ready for the week ahead. But in between making mac-and-cheese and watching Aristocats for […]
