Jacket: The Sienna Shirt ($129)

From Left, Earrings: Double Drop Earrings ($32) Bracelets: Deco Link Bracelet ($48), Spike Bracelet ($59), Stone Bangle ($40) Bag: Brahmin Hingham Satchel ($795) Shoes: Cleor Peep-Toes ($120) Dress: Emmaleigh Dress ($188)

From Right, Sunglasses: Ray Ban Aviators ($200) Earrings: Metal Oval Earrings ($103) Bag: Minkoff Jayden Bag ($395) Shoes: Haidya Flats ($209) Shirt: Mara Hoffman Blouse ($198) Jeans: Paige Skyline Skinny ($189)

For the Office. Instead of pairing this jacket with a pencil skirt, like Club Monaco does in their photos, I decided to wear it over a snug sheath dress.  I did this for two reasons: 1) I get the same clean lines, and 2) the back has a sliver opening, so wearing a dress gives you a peak of unexpected color, while keeping things modest for the office.

If you’re looking for something cheaper, this Halogen sheath comes in several great colors.  And if you really want to take advantage of the mod-60s look, try this geometric print dress.

I would not wear a necklace with this look because you don’t want to complicate the neckline.  I would wear a pair of drop earrings and a stack of bracelets instead.  For this outfit, I layered three bracelets in different textures.  However, if you prefer the clean look of one big cuff, try this lacy, open-work bracelet or this simple, angular cuff.  (The second one is very 60s.)

Red and aqua is one of my favorite color combinations, and this Brahmin bag is just jaw dropping. If you’d like a structured red tote for less, I like this simple barrel satchel for $145 and this elegant faux-croc bag for $82.

For the hair, I would wear it down with a light wave.  It softens the sharp edges of such an angular outfit.  I’d go with a soft makeup palette of taupe shadow with highlighter and rose blush.  But I would definitely paint my finger and toe nails with a bold red lacquer.

For the Weekend. I love the mix or print, color and texture that layering this brightly printed chiffon top under the jacket gives the look.  Add skinny jeans for proportion (remember: full on top, sleek on bottom), and you have a really clean, modern look with a hint of whimsy.

I selected these metallic Sigerson flats because I loved the mix of fabrics.  I also own a similar pair (these ones) and they are some of the most comfortable shoes I have ever owned.  If you need something less pricey, Forever 21 has a similar ankle strap flat, and these Frye ballet flats are my Mother’s favorite.

The bright pink bag coordinates with the bright pink stars in the print on the blouse.  And while may love a Minkoff, if you’re looking for something cheaper, this inexpensive Asos mini-satchel is cute and I LOVE this oversized mini-messenger from BCBG . I also can’t resist sharing this structured Milly bag.

I finished off the look with a pair of silver aviators and some mixed metal drops for both silver and gold lovers.  Want a similar earring for less? Check out these $32 drops.

For the hair, I would wear it up in a dramatically teased, Bardot-like ponytail.  I might even add a navy ribbon just for the hell of it.  For the makeup, a bright pink nail and some pink gloss will finish the look.

    Nice picks.

Thanks especially for pairing the red bag with the mint dress. I recently bought a mint necklace thinking it would be great with lots of things, but then when I had it home, I didn’t feel so inspired. Now that I have a picture of mint with red, I have lots more ideas.

I love the pink bag. Hot pink and navy are a great combo.

  3. I love this Emmaleigh dress! Thanks for the fab styling ideas, especially love it with a red bag.

The Find: Shirts That Don’t Gape

I remember when Rochelle Behrens launched The Shirt — a button-down blouse with anti-gape technology (a patented internal button that keeps the look smooth). The idea seemed brilliant, but at the time, my bust didn’t require an extra button. One baby later, I understand the need for some extra security.
