Two Ways: Orange Sheath Dress

Dress: Crepe Seam Shift Dress ($92)

From Left, Sunglasses: Max Studio Sunglasses ($90) Bag: Zara Office City Bag ($90)Coat: Mango Trench Coat ($80) Earrings: Tom Binns Bolt Earrings ($88) Bracelet: Tortoise Link Bracelet ($68) Belt: Sofie D’Hoore Belt ($151) Shoes: Armani Cutout Slingbacks ($570)

From Right, Ring: Gorjana Teagan Ring ($80) Bag: Classic Q Crossbody ($368) Earrings: Alana Stud Earring ($95) Scarf: Franco Ferrari Scarf ($488) Shoes: Astoria Ballet Flat ($198)

For the Office.  While your first instinct might be to mix orange and black, but that can be a little harsh and Halloween-like  Instead, choose a softer neutral like tan, grey or navy.  It’s a more subtle look.

I paired this bright orange sheath with a pair of awesome navy slingbacks and a skinny brown belt (don’t want to hide that seam detail!).  Yes, these shoes are pricey, but I wanted a pair that would really stand out.  I also liked these ankle strap pumps, but if you want something simpler, try these $50 Jones New York pumps.

I chose a simple trench for this in-between weather we’re having.  This Mango trench is a good price, but if you have a bit more to spend, this Madewell trench has some stylish details and a great cut.

As for the accessories, I adore these Tom Binns hoops.  I also love this knotted pair from Giles & Brother.  The cuff is substantial enough to be worn alone but not overwhelming.  This solid tortoise cuff from Bauble Bar is also chic.  The sunglasses are an interesting shape for aviators.  I like the slightly more square frame, and you can’t beat the price.  And the bag, oh the bag, such a great office tote for under-$100.  It’s also 17″ long, so there’s a chance it could hold a laptop (and the working girls cheer!).

For the hair, I would wear it curly, pulled into a low ponytail with teasing at the crown and some texturizing spray.  For the makeup, I would choose a pale nail color, a taupe shadow, a plum blush and a nude lip with a hint of pink.

For Casual Monday.  Pulled together but relaxed was what I was going for with this look.  This is the primary reason I chose an open-toe flat in a tan shade and a small cross body bag.  (I also like these patent flats for under-$40.)

I wanted to pair this dress with a scarf.  I was searching for something with a hint of orange but not a lot of orange.  This scarf is crazy expensive, but I just fell in love with the blue color.  I also like this Bindya scarf and this Jonathan Adler scarf.  I added a pair of druzy earrings and a large simple ring.  I also like this chain link ring and this under-$5 gold square ring.

If you need advice on trying a scarf, there are a lot of great ideas on Pinterest.  This one is my favorite.

For the hair, I would pull it up in a low, messy bun.  Thank to Kate at the Small Things Blog for this tutorial.  For the makeup, a slightly winged charcoal liner and a lightly shaded lip stain should do the trick.

LOVE this orange dress. And I just tried Kate’s messy bun tutorial last week- it was perfect! Just the right mix of mess and style.

I love that trench! It looks like such a good basic. I wish there were a Mango store near me so I could buy it knowing I could return it without paying for shipping if the size didn’t work or something. Can anyone speak to the general quality of their items?

    I love blue and orange!

The Find: Shirts That Don’t Gape

I remember when Rochelle Behrens launched The Shirt — a button-down blouse with anti-gape technology (a patented internal button that keeps the look smooth). The idea seemed brilliant, but at the time, my bust didn’t require an extra button. One baby later, I understand the need for some extra security.
