It’s allegedly spring. However, for every minute of sunshine, there seems to be an hour of rain and gloom. So while I’d love to wear lighter spring pieces, it’s time to bring on the layers.
Inside the reader mail bag there are questions about summer beauty, hiring a personal shopper, navigating a sudden breakouts, and more. Let’s dig in!
And just like that, it’s April. Summer is almost upon us, and the retailers are filled with linen wares. Now, you know that I am usually unwilling to wear linen to work due to the wrinkles. But in this post-pandemic world, perhaps my mind can change.

Since Sloane was born, I’ve fallen hard into a black, white, and blue wardrobe. This is not necessarily a bad thing, but as spring blooms, I need a little color in my wardrobe (and probably a little print too). Here are a few tops that caught my eye for work.
I’m not sure how I feel about this trend– it looks like women are wearing smocks over leather jackets.
Wow!!!! That first coat. Love the contrast coat. What a find.
I’m all for trying new fashions, but as a young poorly paid staffer in DC, I’m upset that you put this – this doesn’t seem like a wardrobe essential. Most of your pieces are versatile and classic. I’m disappointed.
…So don’t buy it? I didn’t realize Belle was ONLY allowed to post “classic, versatile” pieces on a fashion blog. Because it’s so terrible to indulge in trends.

Man does not live by bread alone. When you get the essentials and the basics, it’s fun to add something different. I love the coat in the middle, I think it’s different and modern.
Thank you for your non-snarky response, Belle. I guess I will just continue dreaming until the day I can buy non-essential pieces!
