For the Office.  This outfit is all about easy elegance. A relaxed silk shirt dress, some modern jewelry and a fun shoe. And if you don’t love kelly green, this dress also comes in a lovely cerulean and a vibrant orange.

If you’re not a fan of wrap dresses, then a shirt dress is your next best option.  I like the sleekness of this Iris & Ink dress, it reminds me of this Marc Jacobs dress I’ve been eyeing. but if you prefer a fuller skirt, try this Donna Ricco or this silk pleated number.

Plus size? This orange Calvin Klein is fab, as is this pink eyelet fit & flare dress.

I chose sophisticated jewelry in strong shapes for a modern look.  I also love these hammered earrings if you’re looking for something just a bit more feminine.  And the square bangle is the perfect wear-with-anything staple piece.

Want a necklace to go with it?  I like this coral number and this light green.

I never use the flimsy tie belts that come with dresses like this one.  They don’t add enough structure for me, and I think a real belt pulls the look together.  I chose this cognac suede belt, but if you need something cheaper, this leather ring belt is incredible and this braided elastic belt is lovely too.

I picked a cognac bag for simplicity’s sake.  I won’t be offended if you find it a little matchy-matchy.  A lighter tan bag or grey could also work.

For the hair, I would pull it up in a loose, low updo.  For the makeup, a greige nail, a berry lip stain and some black liner should do.

For Sunday Brunch.  I wanted to do something a little different here based on a photo I spotted on Pinterest about a year ago, so I mixed a slouchy sweatshirt with a flirty pleated skirt.  It’s a bit of a different look for me, but sometimes it’s nice to do something that’s not exactly “you.”

If you’re looking for a less expensive skirt, I always have trouble finding cheap pleated skirts (though H&M has them in summer sometimes).  Piperlime has a few choices–I love this peach skirt and this blue number–and Forever 21 has this colorblock skirt on offer.  Plus size ladies also have the option of this fun dot print or this longer crinkle fabric skirt.

For the accessories, I chose a colorful, inexpensive stud in bright coral.  I also loved this $15 layered bangle from Hive and Honey.  I also thought a tribal engraved bangle or a cut-out stack bracelet could be a good choice.  I also chose cat-eye sunnies (cheaper ones, here) and a woven clutch from local store Simply Soles.

The hair for this look could be worn any way you are most comfortable.  I would probably go for some bouncy waves.  And for the makeup, how about a fun nail color and some pink gloss?

Belle, where is the link to the skirt in the post? I can’t find it anywhere.

The green shirt dress is STUNNING!

  3. GingerR says:

I like the slouchy sweater with the pleated skirt, but I think I’d move up from an sweatshirt style to a real sweater. Gym/Camp togs with a filmy/floaty skirt is too much contrast for me.

Loehmanns has some good pleated skirts for cheaper prices if you are interested!

Have you purchased any of the Iris and Ink pieces yet? How do you fell about the quality. Some commenters on the Outnet weren’t thrilled by them, but I don’t know if that compared to the ultra high end pieces on the site or in general.

Too Many Tabs: April 19, 2024

This week, I fell mindlessly into my phone more than I think I ever have. My screen time went from 3.5 hours per day to 5 hours per day. But the increased eye strain did lead to some good finds. Just going to leave this right here.  (I really need to work on “Didn’t make […]
