J.CREW Tippi Sweater ($59)

I like lightweight sweaters for casual work days.  Pair them with pencil skirts and statement necklaces.  Trousers and scarves.  Tucked into peplum skirts with belts.

If you’re larger chested, a v-neck might be preferrable to the crewneck.  I also like scoopnecks, provided you don’t show too much cleavage.  And even if you’re not well-endowed, sometimes showing a little skin is more flattering to your figure.

And if you’re small chested, you can try something a little different and wear a lightweight cardigan backwards so that the buttons run up the back.  It doesn’t work on everyone, but on the right body type, it can look chic.

I also like that this sweater has a 3/4-length sleeve, it feels a little bit more “spring” than a full-length sleeve.

I have a Tippi sweater in pink. While the quality is good and I love the 3/4 sleeves, I'd caution anyone who is thick in the middle against getting one. The material clings to every last scrap of belly flub.

I LOVE this sweater. I have it in three colors, and it looks great dressed up or down. I find it very figure flattering.

  3. SLG says:

I think I know the answer to this, but here goes: Anyone have any super-awesome tricks for putting on a cardigan over a 3/4-length sleeve, without pushing the 3/4-length sleeve up to your shoulder?

My office temperature changes a lot, so I put on/take off a cardigan several times a day. Love the Tippi sweater but I this happens every time I wear it. Magical suggestions, anyone? Are blazers my only option?

  4. Karin says:

I'm intrigued by the wear-it-backwards look — from the back I agree that it adds an interesting twist, but is there a photo of how it looks from the front? Maybe I'm just a skeptic, but I think from the front it would just look like someone put their cardigan on backwards.

And I share SLG's problem with the 3/4 sleeve + cardigan dilemma. The heater in my office has two settings — blasting or off — meaning I'm constantly putting on and taking off a cardigan, often resulting in awkwardly bunched fabric.

  5. H. says:

Does anyone know how the fit of the Tippi compares to the Jackie? Thanks!

I love cardigans but I can't get my mind to deal with tbe backwards one. It reminds me of my teachers during middle school spirit week's “backwards day”.

  7. E says:

Here's a backwards cardigan from the front. Apparently it's a trend from the 50's.

Just wanted to comment that as a “larger chested” woman, I prefer not to wear v-neck tops to the office. Doing so requires wearing an extra layer underneath to ensure nothing accidentally makes an appearance. Maybe I'm buying the wrong kind of v-necks or in the wrong size? That's just my preference/experience.

It’s allegedly spring. However, for every minute of sunshine, there seems to be an hour of rain and gloom. So while I’d love to wear lighter spring pieces, it’s time to bring on the layers.

The Range: Spring Blouses for Work (or Zoom)

Since Sloane was born, I’ve fallen hard into a black, white, and blue wardrobe. This is not necessarily a bad thing, but as spring blooms, I need a little color in my wardrobe (and probably a little print too). Here are a few tops that caught my eye for work.
