10th Commandment: February 8

Feb 8, 2013

After several years of metal link watches (I think every blogger on Earth owns this Michael Kors watch now.), timepieces with leather straps appear to be making a comeback.  I especially like the combination of tan leather with rose gold that keeps popping up.

I do NOT like those oversized Michael Kors watches. Way too big. I've had my eye on that Burberry one for a couple months now in the hopes it is more manageable on my wrist.

  2. Mary says:

Love, love, love the Michael Kors one. Too bad there is no room in the budget for it right now.

  3. Jenn says:

I also love love love the Michael Kors one (seriously, I almost posted an identical comment), AND I'm in the market for a grown-up watch. But I stupidly asked for a watch for my birthday, which isn't for another month, so I probably shouldn't turn around and buy one for myself. And I would never ask for anything so expensive as a gift.

  4. I know we've had this conversation here before, and I'm not usually the buttoned up type, but when it comes to watches I just think something more grown up is the way to go if you're going to wear one.

  5. Lawlala says:

Love the tan leather, don't care for rose gold… I think anything other than silver (and platinum, why would I restrict myself) makes me look jaundice.

  6. Liz says:

So glad you brought up watches, because I've been meaning to ask: To what extent, if at all, can you mix metals in your jewelry on any given day? If I have a platinum wedding band, do I need to buy a watch that matches? Or if I say screw it and buy a yellow or rose gold watch, can I only wear yellow or rose gold jewelry when I'm wearing it? What kind of watch would you recommend if you're looking for maximum outfit versatility? Thanks!

  7. Dallas says:

Liz, I'm no authority but I have an all metal rose gold watch and my college ring is white gold and onyx and I wear both silver and gold with the whole meghela, depending. I think watches and daily jewelry are exempt, but thats maybe just my opinion. It seems to me, too, that metal mixing is pretty common these days.

  8. Kris says:

I have the same question about mixing metals. I love that Burberry watch, but my engagement ring is platinum. Wouldn't it look weird to wear both? Am I forced to choose between that gorgeous watch and my ring? 😉

  9. Linds says:

My wedding band and engagement ring are platinum, and I wear a silver pinky ring on my right hand. My work/special occasion watch is a gold and silver Skagen similar to this one:

I don't hesitate to mix metals on any given day; I find the mixed metal watch helps pull everything together. I also have a casual Fossil wrap watch with silver accents and a tan leather strap.

  10. Jill says:

So funny about the Michael Kors watch–I didn't buy one exactly because of what you wrote, everyone had one! I own a steel Fossil with a blue face and I love it, but I dream of saving up for a Cartier Tank Solo.

  11. Allison says:

My fiance got me the Nixon Kensington watch in rose gold with a saddle leather band as one of my Christmas presents and I'm totally in love with it:

I wear it daily and have been really happy with it. Highly recommended!
