10th Commandment: January 31

Jan 31, 2013

One month of 2013 completed. Where does the time go?

I receive a number of e-mails regarding denim jackets.  Are they out of style?  How do I wear one?  Why are they so expensive?  So I thought that I would quickly answer those questions here.

Whether a denim jacket is on trend depends on how you wear it.  A suburban soccer Mom would wear it with chinos and a white tee and flip flops, this is not a fashionable look.  Utilitarian, sure, but not fashionable.

A hipster would wear an acid washed one with some crazy studs on the pockets and Dr. Martens, this is how the kids in Anaconda, Montana dressed in 1992…draw your own conclusions.

How does a fashionable woman wear one?  By using it as a contrast to more feminine pieces, like a flirty chiffon dress, a full skirt or colored pants and a silk blouse.  I also recommend rolling the sleeves a bit instead of buttoning them.

Huzzah! I bought a denim jacket on Black Friday because it was a deal not to be passed up, but I haven't been brave enough to wear it yet! Mine is a tad lighter than the washes you've pictured, but maybe this spring I'll bravely break it out with some of my floral dresses! Love being re-invigorated by your blog, thanks Belle! 🙂

I am still rocking my jean jacket from Gap that I got in the 9th gade. Lucky that it still fits in my late twenties.

What about a much lighter wash? Can you still wear those?

I bought the Old Navy jean jacket last year and wore it all through the spring, summer and fall. Great purchase and quality is great!

I watched an episode of What Not To Watch recently, and they paired a lighter wash jean jacket with a red pencil skirt and it looked great, feminine, and well put together.

I just received the Old Navy jean jacket in the mail yesterday. I purchased the medium wash in an XS (I'm a small to medium in tops at most other places, but Old Navy always runs big) and its really great- I love jean jackets for spring, and with all the colored pants that are popular these days, you have more and more options to wear with jean jackets and not end up looking like you're in a denim suit (though I always prefer a jean jacket with a summery dress or a cute colored pencil skirt).

Beauty Review: Bondi Boost

As I age, I notice many changes in my body. Most are fine. Some are frustrating. Like many women, I lost a lot of hair in my postpartum phase. Being anemic for more than a year after, it didn’t grow back in to its former glory. So I’ve tried any number of shampoos, pills and […]

The Mondays: March 18, 2024

This weekend was a tricky one. The warm weather and bright sunshine of last weekend disappeared in a flurry of wet snow trapping our very active 18-month-old in the house with us. Plus, our babysitter cancelled, so neither of us feels ready for the week ahead. But in between making mac-and-cheese and watching Aristocats for […]
