10th Commandment: January 25

Jan 25, 2013

Last fall, the Barbour coat was the thing to have.  You couldn’t cast a sideways glance without seeing 20 of them, especially if you were in Georgetown.  This spring, short field jackets will be on the must have lists for the chilly nights of April.

J.CREW Downtown Field Jacket ($148)

I love the way this jacket mixes an outdoorsy sensibility with a sleek, citified silhouette.  I have a quilted Barbour jacket that I wear when I shoot trap, and I think that I may like this option better.  Plus, it would be a great jacket to wear in Montana, because being too dressed up in Big Sky Country is frowned upon.

If you like the look, but want to spend a little less, Gap has a khaki jacket for just shy of $100.  I also have a few friends who own the Eddie Bauer equivalent, which cost a bit more, and they love it.  Or for those of you who just want an olive jacket that isn’t a field jacket, this Urban Outfitters coat has a military feel and this Gianni Binni coat is a bit like a sleek anorak.

For plus size women, this Torrid Anorak is closest, but this Forever 21 vest is really cool.

I have that J Crew jacket and it's worth every penny. A perfect between-seasons layer and it always looks really sharp.

I agree, I bought this jacket back in 2009. It's still in great shape, and I've worn it a ton. Totally worth the money.

On a related note, J Crew just sent me a baggy of replacement buttons for a coat I bought last year that they no longer carry. It took them a little time to track them down, but they followed through and sent me a bunch. The way the buttons are sewn on, they tend to come lose, and I've lost a few. Now I have more than enough! Great customer service!

Have this – Love it. Perfect for transitional weather. I even wear it to work on no-meetings days with a Super 120s Pencil skirt or trousers for a different take on workwear. The navy one is really pretty too, but you can't go wrong with the mossy brown.

Does anyone else get excited when Belle features something you already own? I feel like a winner. I bought this jacket in September and it's perfect!

  5. I also own this jacket and think it was a great buy. I wore it on safari and it cuts wind fabulously, which was really nice. Plus it kind of wipes down easily which is good if you're in a sandy place. In addition, unlike the khaki mom shorts I bought I can wear it in my day to day life as well.

  6. Vicki says:

I am definitely loving the field jacket style these days! I recently purchased a similar style at h&m for $50.

This jacket is nice for cooler evenings and can easily be layered (within) on colder days.

  7. Gina says:

I have this jacket and I LOVE IT. Definitely worth the investment.

  8. Alaina says:

I tried this jacket on and LOVED it, but the arms were too long. I've been looking for an alternative in petite sizes, but haven't found any. do you have any suggestions?

Beauty Review: Bondi Boost

As I age, I notice many changes in my body. Most are fine. Some are frustrating. Like many women, I lost a lot of hair in my postpartum phase. Being anemic for more than a year after, it didn’t grow back in to its former glory. So I’ve tried any number of shampoos, pills and […]

The Mondays: March 18, 2024

This weekend was a tricky one. The warm weather and bright sunshine of last weekend disappeared in a flurry of wet snow trapping our very active 18-month-old in the house with us. Plus, our babysitter cancelled, so neither of us feels ready for the week ahead. But in between making mac-and-cheese and watching Aristocats for […]
