10th Commandment: January 16

Jan 16, 2013

This season, designers are spicing up dresses with slits, keyholes and cutouts.  Some brands are even adding these details to otherwise-professional sheath dresses.  Depending on your office, your body type and your comfort level, you might be able to add a hint of skin to your work attire.

Elected Official

Black Halo Eddie Sheath (Piperlime, $390)

Hill Staffer

Anne Klein Fitted Sheath (Bloomingdale’s, $139)

Also comes in plus size.

Paid Intern

Dorothy Perkins Teal Cut Out Dress ($27)

Personally, I love every.single.one of these dresses.  I also love this cut out sheath dress with 3/4 sleeves.  I think it balances the cut out a bit better, and it’s a beautiful royal purple.  Nordstrom also has a similar dress for under-$100.

For plus size ladies, this asymmetric slit dress is more appropriate for cocktai, but it’s definitely a stunner.

Thanks for this post! I have this dress with a similar style from Banana Republic but have always been afraid the slit at the top was too revealing for work. Perhaps it just depends on the bust size.

How would you suggest styling these, besides adding a blazer? I know my office gets quite cold and I'm constantly alternating between the few blazers I own.

The Find: Bright and Striped

For the past few years, the wardrobes of many influencers have tilted toward the beige and boring.  I’m all for a good basic, but staple pieces can only take you so far.  Sometimes, you need to wear something that has a little something extra, and this sale-priced tee certainly does.
