BPGP: J.Lo Glow

Jan 3, 2013

This Christmas, a friend who works at a fashion magazine sent me an unexpected gift.  As I opened the package, I thought to myself, “Is this a joke?,” because looking back at me from under a pile of shredded paper was a bottle of J.Lo Glow ($27).

Suddenly, I was having flashbacks of white acetate hip huggers and double stick tape.  It was the early 2000s again with Gigli and Bennifer and pink diamond rings, and I was not feeling the vibe.

“Don’t hate,” my friend said through giggles.  “You love citrus scents, and Glow smells great on everyone.”

So, against my better judgment, I opened the bottle and sprayed a bit on my wrist.  And to my surprise, I did not start spontaneously humming the chorus of “Jenny from the Block.”

The scent of Glow is a mix of pink grapefruit, orange flower, vanilla and jasmine.  The mix of musk and citrus is surprisingly lovely, and the perfume is just the right blend of floral and fresh.  It’s a softer fragrance, so you do need to carry an atomizer for touch ups if you want all-day coverage.

It might not become my every day fragrance, but the scent is a nice change from my regular perfume (Fresh Hesperides($38)).  And once I removed that cheap, narcissistic necklace from the bottle, I was able to look at it without shivering.

This was my best friend's scent when we just graduated college. I remember not being impressed with it straight out of the bottle, but on her it smelled amazing. She's since moved on to Viva La Juicy but this one will always bring back memories!

  2. Leigh says:

Don't feel bad, I have one of the Paris Hilton fragrances, which I am so embarrassed to say out loud. The one in the pink and black bottle. A lady walked past me and smelled great and when I asked her what it was she barely said the name above a whisper. And then I quick ran to the store to buy it and hid it in my cart so no one could see I had something with Paris Hilton on it!

  3. I only wear 2 fragrances. An expensive pure perfume that is hand made in CA and Clinique Happy. Sometimes good smells come in unexpected (and happily inexpensive) places.

I also have a Paris Hilton fragrance! So embarrassing, but it smells really good. I was testing a bunch and it was my favorite, I almost didn't buy it when I realized what it was…

  5. Emme Gee says:

I wear Fresh Hesperides – I love any grapefruit/citrus scent. You should try Guerlain Aqua Allegoria Pamplelune or L'Occitane Citrus Verbena too. Both are lovely.

Britney Spears Curious is in my scent rotation

  7. Chloe says:

True story: One of my favorite perfumes is a Mariah Carey one with an obnoxious pink butterfly as its cap. The saleslady had to convince me to try it because I was so horrified. Solution? Custom perfume bottles … no one has to know 😉

I have a bottle of that. As with all scents, it's best in small doses.

The Find: A Striped Tee

Without question, the most worn item in my wardrobe is a black-and-white striped tee. I wear it in winter under sweaters, in spring with white jeans, in summer with black shorts. I’ve been wearing the same one for years (it’s the best). But they don’t make it anymore. So here are some options for replacement.
