Two Ways: Piped Schoolboy Blazer

Dec 13, 2012

Blazer: Gap Ponte Schoolboy Blazer ($88)

From Left, Necklace: Small Pyramid Pendant ($95) Rings: Push Peaked Knot Ring ($88) and ALC Manacle Ring ($195) Bag: Mango Croc Effect Satchel ($70) Shoes: Martin Clay Pumps ($98) Top: Vince Half Placket Blouse ($275) Jeans: 7 for all Mankind Dojo Jeans ($169)

From Right, Earrings: Marc Jacobs Bird Studs ($48) Scarf: LoveQuotes Eyelash Scarf ($90) Bag: Intergalocktic Messenger ($179) Boots: Steve Madden Flat Riding Boot ($179) Sweater: Inhabit Cable Knit Sweater ($160) Jeans: Midrise Toothpick Jean ($168)

Schoolboy blazers are a classic piece that can be more interesting if it’s made in a fun color (like this one) or with an embellishment of some kind.  But if you like the look, I would consider a basic navy like this one from J.Crew for $198 or the navy version of this one for $88.  I also adored this Autumn Cashmere cable knit blazer.

For Casual Friday. This blazer feels like more of a casual piece to me.  I love the way it looks with a silky blouse and trouser jeans.  But if you’re looking for a more polished look, ditch the jeans and add a pair of light or charcoal grey trousers.

Placket blouses like this one have become a wardrobe staple for me.  If you’re looking for a less-expensive option, try this lace-detail blouse or this one from DKNY.  If you’re looking for a color, I like this red one.  Need a plus size? I love the contrasting trim on this blouse so much, I wish it came in my size.

The accessories are really what make this outfit.  I love the marble ring and the twisted, faceted crystal ring. I also liked this House of Harlow ring and this oversized marquise cut ring.  I also like the slightly edgier pendant.  If you’re looking for something cheaper, I like this pendant for under-$30.

For this look, I would style my hair down in my usual way with the ends curled under.  For the makeup, I would wear a pop of pink blush and some light lip gloss in a raspberry shade.  I would also throw on a light coat of black liner.

For the Movies. Wearing a chunky sweater under a blazer can be a tricky endeavor.  The sleeve clearance is rarely what you hope it would be.  But it’s a great way to keep warm as well as a cool casual look.

I used a light grey sweater to pair with the grey trim on the jacket.  The dark grey scarf matches the trim.  Because I didn’t want to overdo the grey, I opted for a green bag and a brown boot.  It looks a little quirky in the set, but I think it’s one of those outfits that is iffy in theory and great on.

If you’re looking for a less expensive cable knit sweater, this Old Navy sweater comes in several colors and has a cool texture to it.  And if the charcoal scarf is what you’re after but you need it at a lower price, it’s on sale for $83 at Zappos.

For the makeup, I would wear a coral lip gloss and taupe eye shadow.  For the hair, I would wear it up in a bouncy ponytail with some teasing at the roots.

Wow, the Autumn Cashmere blazer is drool-worthy. Nice find.

  2. m says:

Can anyone suggest outfits that don't involve jeans or the obvious black pants? I love the red but it the color doesn't seem so versatile for non-holiday-season outfits.

  3. Belle says:

Red? The jacket is coral. You could also wear it with navy of you did a grey shirt, or over a white dress.

  4. K says:

Sorry peeps, but this jacket isn't coral. It just arrived. It is road cone neon. Beware! It is lovely in the pictures, but I would get laughed out of the office if I wore it.

It’s allegedly spring. However, for every minute of sunshine, there seems to be an hour of rain and gloom. So while I’d love to wear lighter spring pieces, it’s time to bring on the layers.

The Range: Spring Blouses for Work (or Zoom)

Since Sloane was born, I’ve fallen hard into a black, white, and blue wardrobe. This is not necessarily a bad thing, but as spring blooms, I need a little color in my wardrobe (and probably a little print too). Here are a few tops that caught my eye for work.
