Gift Guide: Gifts for Her Under-$50

Nov 28, 2012

1. Jonathan Adler Peacock Match Strike ($50) // 2. Echo Design Touch Texture Gloves ($42) // 3. iPhone 4/4S Case Wallet ($40) // 4. Backup Battery for iPhone 4/4S ($40) // 5. Needs Supply Window Necklace ($28) // 6. Dwell Studio Giraffe ($35) // 7. 100 Years of Fashion Book ($40) // 8. Laura Mercier Creme de Pistache Honey Bath ($40)

One. How adorable is this peacock match holder and strike from Jonathan Adler?  It would look perfect on a mantle above a fireplace or with a set of candle sticks on a dining room table.  I also like this simple glass apothecary bottle with the striking grooves carved into the bottom.

Two.  These Echo Design gloves are perfect for tapping away on your touch screen phone while keeping your hands warm.  I love the pattern on the pair in the set, but if you’d like something simpler they make them in leather with a dainty ruffle detail, in cashmere and basic knit.  If you like the gloves, but need to stay in a lower price point, these fleece gloves from Target are less than half the price.

Three.  I prefer to keep all my essentials readily accessible when I travel, so an iPhone case that holds a credit card, my license and some cash really appeals to me.  If you search Amazon, you can also find cases for your Blackberry, Droid or iPhone 5.  If you’d like something a bit more stylish, I also like this simple iPhone wallet.

Four.  Tech gifts are always popular, but now that we all have cell phones and other devices surgically attached to our hands, they’re even more craveable.  And since our beloved devices have the battery lives of dragonflies, having a backup source of battery power like this one would be invaluable.  This would be the perfect gift for a talkative teenager or the friend who is always on has his or her phone.

Five.  If you’re going to buy someone a necklace as a gift, I believe it’s usually better to choose something dainty and simple like this long necklace.  Other brands to look at for dainty necklaces include Gorjana (I love this delicate star and this alphabet charm.) and Dogeared (This horseshoe is cute.).

Six.  I usually don’t like figurines because I deplore clutter, but this charming little giraffe would look great on a bookshelf or in an office.  Dwell also sells elephants, rhinoceroses, antelopes and horses in gold, silver and white ceramic.  If animals aren’t what you’re looking for, I also like this palm shaped brass bowl.  It would be great for holding keys or other items.

Seven.  I like to give women fashion books for Christmas.  There are some great ones on the market.  100 Years of Fashion is more of a visual aid containing gorgeous full color photos of every fashion icon you can imagine.  Some other books that I’ve given or been given are: This Little Piggy Went to Prada, How to Dress for Success by Edith Head, The Little Dictionary of Fashion, and Shop Your Closet.

Eight.  I put Laura Mercier Honey Bath on last years gift guide as well.  It’s one of my all time favorite gifts.  It has the most luxurious scent and texture; it makes for the perfect bubble bath.  Mercier also makes body scrubs and lotions in the same delicious fragrances.  I’m partial to the fig, but the pistachio and brulee are the most popular.  If you don’t know what scent the recipient would like, Mercier makes a body souffle sampler ($60) and a hand cream sampler ($28) that contain all of the scents.

The Find: A Striped Tee

Without question, the most worn item in my wardrobe is a black-and-white striped tee. I wear it in winter under sweaters, in spring with white jeans, in summer with black shorts. I’ve been wearing the same one for years (it’s the best). But they don’t make it anymore. So here are some options for replacement.

The Find: Like a McCall’s Pattern

When I was young, my Mother used to bring me along when she would go shopping for fabric. As a result, I spent a lot of time, killing time, flipping through pattern books. So when I spotted this dress, I was instantly transported to the pattern table at a Jo-Ann Fabrics.
