Gift Guide: Gifts for Him Under-$25

Nov 26, 2012

1. Tervis Water Bottle Tumbler ($25) // 2. Oversized Buffalo Scarf ($29) // 3. Tovolo Sphere Ice Molds, Set of 2 ($11) // 4. Collar Stays Gift Set ($18.50) // 5. Tapp Business Card Case ($5) // 6. Cigar Journal ($5.50)

One.  Tervis Tumblers make great gifts.  You can find ones printed with college logos, fraternity letters or pro-team mascots.  They have double-walled construction to keep drinks really cold whether you’re on the road or at home.  And the best part is that they’re made in America.

Two.  Now, I know this scarf is a little bit more expensive than the $25-limit.  But the scarf was so much nicer than anything else I saw in that price range, that it’s definitely worth the $5.

The scarf comes in four great shades of Buffalo plaid (I love the orange), and the large size will keep him very warm on his morning commute.  Heck, forget him, I may buy one for myself.  But if you really need one under-$25, try this scarf from Old Navy is $10.

Three.  Last year, I put a set of whisky stones on my list for men.  But since then, several men have complained that the stones, while inventive, don’t keep their drinks cold enough.  So this year I decided to go with an ice ball maker for the gentleman who enjoys a nice Scotch/Whisky/Bourbon.

Ice balls melt more slowly than traditional ice to keep drinks colder longer without watering them down.  And they’re so large that you can easily add mint leaves, lemon slices or berries to the ice for festive cubes for summertime pitchers of tea and lemonade.  If you don’t think two molds will be enough, you can also buy a set of four for $10 at JC Penney.

Four.  The consensus among my male Twitter followers is that metal collar stays are better than plastic ones because they hold their shape better.  So if you need a quick gift to add to a stocking or a gift for a Secret Santa and you have no idea what to buy, at least you can pick up something he can use.  If you need something a little cheaper, these brass stays are $10 for 18.

Five.  I purchased this exact business card holder last month at a shop on Capitol Hill called Homebody.  It’s made of aluminum so it’s lightweight and small enough to fit in a jacket pocket.  I vastly prefer carrying this case to searching for cards in the bottom of my purse or digging into my wallet every time I meet someone.  If you’d like something more stylish, Jack Spade has a chic leather case.

Six.  Truth be told, most women don’t know enough about cigars to know which one to buy for the man in their life.  So you can either rely on the expertise of the clerk at your local tobacco shop, or you can purchase one of the many cigar accessories on the market.  One of my male friends received a cigar journal as a gift, and he loves it.  It allows him to keep a record of which cigars he liked, loved or hated.  That way, when he goes to the store to buy cigars for himself or for others, he can look through his notes to choose the perfect one.

This journal and a gift card to a tobacco shop would be a great gift if your brother, father, boyfriend or friend enjoys cigars.  You could also pair the journal with a leather cigar case for a pricier gift.

Tomorrow, I’ll be showcasing gifts for her in the $25 to $50 range.  And there are a few that I am really excited about!

The Gap scarf is THE BEST. I'm wearing one of the ones from last year to the office today. Hands down the cutest, warmest scarf I own. I'm getting one for my mom this Christmas. For the ladies, it's long enough to tie in a cute way and wide enough to wear as a shawl.

p.s. Love the Roll Tide mug, Belle!

There is a beer journal called 99 Bottles of Beer that is similar to the cigar journal Belle recommends. My husband and I have one and we love it. That journal plus a 750 ml bottle of craft brewery beer or a special Christmas/holiday beer is a great $25 gift for a guy who is into beer (or a guy whom you would prefer didn't smell like cigars . . .)

The collar stays are 50% off with free shipping today.

I doubt it was on purpose, but I love the Roll Tide shout-out! Thanks for the great ideas!

I went to Hill Kitchen today on Barrack's Row to get square ice cube trays and noticed the sphere ice makers, only because I just saw them on your blog! I said that out loud and this woman behind me had also seen them on your blog! So I bought the squares AND the spheres…

Thank you SO MUCH for these $25 and under posts. It's really wonderful to see a post where wallet-friendly gifts actually ARE wallet-friendly, and not $100 or $150 as found in many other blogs and magazines. Looking forward to the $25-50 range posts as well!

Also loving the Roll Tide…that might be perfect for a few guys on my list!

I love those Tervis tumblers! I've given them as gifts quite a bit, and they've always been really well received. My dad loved them. Also, they have a lifetime guaranty.

  9. AD says:

Tervis Tumblers are awesome. But Roll Tide? Gross…..

  10. Jean says:

Great list, Belle. Can't wait for the next edition. My boyfriend got the whiskey stones last year… and true to what your friends say, they don't keep the drink cold. He then got a big square ice cube mold but those don't fit in many cups. And finally, this year the spheres are on the wishlist.

I just have to pipe in with a “GO DAWGS!”

The Find: Shirts That Don’t Gape

I remember when Rochelle Behrens launched The Shirt — a button-down blouse with anti-gape technology (a patented internal button that keeps the look smooth). The idea seemed brilliant, but at the time, my bust didn’t require an extra button. One baby later, I understand the need for some extra security.
