Perfect Chambray Ex-Boyfriend Shirt ($69.50)

I was slow to adopt chambray when it was sweeping the country a few years ago.  Then, I bought an inexpensive shirt from Old Navy, and soon, I was wearing it on a regular basis.  Far from the denim work shirts of my youth out West, today’s chambray shirt brings ease to the wardrobe.

I like that this shirt is a little longer in the back than the front.  Not obscenely so, but enough that it provides a bit of modesty when wearing snug-fitting pants.  I also think a medium to dark wash is a much more versatile and classic choice than some of the lighter, sun-bleached washes I have seen.

Looking for something a bit less expensive? This one from Old Navy is a good choice, and it also comes in plus size.

I know a number of your have chambray shirts at home, so check back at 1:00PM for Two Ways to wear them.

Just a tip, that Old Navy version runs huge. I ordered it offline, and I can't believe how ill'fitting it is. I am normally a small, and it looks like a circus tent on me.

I bought a Chambray shirt from Madewell 2 years ago and it is in my weekly rotation! It fits weekendwear, workwear, and style all into one little shirt!

So excited for the two ways post! One of your older posts is the reason I ever bought a chambray shirt and now I wear it at least once a week. Thanks!

Do people wear chambray to work? Unless you work in a non-conservative environment, I'm not sure it would be alright?

  5. Chloe says:

I, too, was hesitant to jump on the chambray bandwagon. Bought one at Banana Republic during a storewide sale, and now I wear it on a semi-weekly basis. It's so easy to pair with so many things! My work is casual, creative environment, so chambray is OK.

  6. SarahT says:

Also consider that a lighter color chambray top works better when paired with denim if, like myself, you find that own mostly jeans in darker colors.

  7. Belle says:

Anon: I've worn my chambray under other sweaters, jackets, etc. on casual days.

  8. lisa says:

Is this long enough to wear with leggings?

  9. Amy says:

I LOVE the Old Navy chambray shirt that I bought a few months ago (and actually did not have any trouble with the sizing). I too wear mine once every week or two. For the price, it really can't be beat.

Looking forward to the 2 ways post!

Beauty Review: Bondi Boost

As I age, I notice many changes in my body. Most are fine. Some are frustrating. Like many women, I lost a lot of hair in my postpartum phase. Being anemic for more than a year after, it didn’t grow back in to its former glory. So I’ve tried any number of shampoos, pills and […]

The Mondays: March 18, 2024

This weekend was a tricky one. The warm weather and bright sunshine of last weekend disappeared in a flurry of wet snow trapping our very active 18-month-old in the house with us. Plus, our babysitter cancelled, so neither of us feels ready for the week ahead. But in between making mac-and-cheese and watching Aristocats for […]
