10th Commandment: November 14

Nov 14, 2012

Holiday party season is just around the corner, and if you’re looking for a dress that can be worn to multiple events, look no further than black lace.  It’s feminine, versatile and a classic.  Choosing a dress in a simple shape means that you can add belts, jewels, shoes and other accessories to freshen the dress for any occasion.

Elected Official

Hill Staffer

Calvin Klein V-Neck Sheath Dress ($188)

Looking for a lace dress with long sleeves?  This dress has a cool scalloped v-neck neckline.

Need a plus-size dress? This one is very classic and this one is a bit more fun.

Prefer a color?  This purple is rather bold and this red one is fun and flirty.

I highly recommend this dress from Madewell (https://www.madewell.com/madewell_category/DRESSES/waistdefineddresses/PRDOVR~30370/30370.jsp).

It is beautiful in black or red and is appropriate for multiple occasions including an office party, dinner or even church services. It's classic without looking too old or dowdy.

I feel self-conscious in sleeveless dresses, so I love this cap-sleeve option from Banana Republic. It sold out in stores but is online, in petites at least

This Rachel Zoe dress with lace would be perfect for a holiday business function https://roanshop.com/womens-clothing/designer-dresses/rachel-zoe-amanda-lace-dress.html plus its on sale!

To add to the chorus, my favorite is the long-sleeved, sweetheart neckline, slightly fitted option from Topshop. https://us.topshop.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ProductDisplay?beginIndex=21&viewAllFlag=&catalogId=33060&storeId=13052&productId=7939973&langId=-1&sort_field=Relevance&categoryId=208634&parent_categoryId=208580&pageSize=20

I went with black; it arrived yesterday and I love it already! The site also has the same dress in burgundy and cream. Happy Holidays!

I LOVE that you did this post! I recently bought a Tory Burch black lace dress (this one: https://www.bergdorfgoodman.com/p/Tory-Burch-Bovary-Lace-Dress/prod81380008/?ecid=BGCIGoogleProductAds&ci_src=17588969&ci_sku=prod81380008skuBLACK ) for holiday parties. Since I commute in and out of DC by air, it's easier to have just one dress along that can be accessorized for holiday parties. Please do another post showing different ways to accessorize the basic black lace dress to give us a number of different ways to wear it without being too obvious!

Such a timely post! I was at a weeding this weekend (over 200 people, very fancy but not black tie) and nearly 1/2 of every woman there was rocking a dress with lace (including me!). No one was wearing exactly the same one, but it is definitely in fashion right now!

  7. Cara says:

Once I read that lace dresses tend to make you look heavier. I don't need any help with that so I've avoided them even though I think they're pretty. My mother wore a beautiful gray lace dress to my wedding and it looked amazing on her but slightly off in the photos. Does anyone agree with that?

Add to Cart: Five Recent Amazon Purchases

Since my daughter was born, Amazon has claimed so much of my money that I had to buy stock just to get some of it back.  Between the formula, onesies, fruit pouches, diapers, wipes, and ever evolving list of baby development gear, I could not survive without Prime.   My husband no longer notices the […]
