Jacket: Marni Lily White Jacket ($1,360) // Top: Grey Silk Blouse ($115) // Tights: Commando Ultimate Opaque ($34) // Skirt: No. 2 Pencil Skirt in Wool ($80) // Shoes: Cole Haan Chelsea Pump ($298) // Watch: Citizen Eco Drive ($110) // Rings: Hive & Honey Dome Ring ($20) and Pinky Signet Ring ($45)
Today’s outfit was chosen because it offers me the opportunity to talk about layering jackets with short sleeves over shirts with long sleeves. In theory, this shouldn’t work, but I’m always surprised by how chic it can look with the right pairings.
Let’s start with the jacket. Obviously, Marni is out of the price range for most professional women. This blazer from BCBG is more affordable for sure. But if you like the ruffles, you should try this one.
For this set, I went with a grey silk shirt but if you would rather have the lightness of the sheer blouse in the photo, this Miha blouse is right up your alley. Add the basic pencil skirt, and the foundation items are all set.
The shoes with this outfit are a bit more professional than the YSL Tributes in the photo. If you’re looking for black patent leather in a lower price point, try these from Joan & David.
The rest of the accessories are fairly straight forward: a leather band watch in a classic shape, a dome ring and itty bitty ring for your pinky. (I’m not sure when pinky rings and half knuckle rings made a comeback, but they seem to be everywhere. I think Pinterest is to blame/thank.)
For the hair, I would wear it half up-half down instead of all down like Olivia Palermo is doing in the photo. For the makeup, I’d keep it simple with some red polish on my nails, black eyeliner and a hint of grey shadow.
love the look and your take on it.
