Belle's Weekly Favorites–October 15, 2012

1. IRO Sheina Beige Alpaca Jacket ($389) and Scotch and Soda Tweed Jacket ($209) // 2. Amrita Singh Grace Necklace ($150) // 3. Day Birger ET Mikkelsen Imperial Lace Top ($260) // 4. Reiss Mira Clutch $225) // 5. Helmut Lang Alpaca Pullover ($370) // 6. Belle by Sigerson Morrison Leopard Flats ($260) // 7. By Malene Birger Rasminel Dress ($645)

Polyvore Set Here.

One. Tweed jackets are a great choice for cold weather.  You can layer them over dresses or wear them with casual separates.  I wear mine with a long tee or silk blouse, with a pencil skirt or jeans.  This mint-colored one is a lovely choice for under-$50, and this jacket with faux leather sleeves takes advantage of a fall trend for under-$150.

Two.  Sadly, this pave and circle chain necklace is sold out, but similar items are available in a wide range of price points.  This necklace from Yochi has imperfect circles layered to create a great statement piece.  This necklace from Max & Chloe has filigree detail for a light and airy feel.  Lastly, this simple, under-$50 necklace from Jones of New York comes in silver and gold.

Three.  Lace overlay has been a popular choice for several seasons now.  I chose this top because of the mix of nude and black and the crochet feel of the lace.  This piece is so unique that finding something similar was difficult in any price point.  However, this lace, scallop-edged Madewell shirt and this top from American Apparel has a soft eyelash-lace quality to it for under-$50.

Four.  A pop of red can be a girl’s best friend.  This elegant clutch with gold detail and a crossbody strap is the perfect mix of elegance and functionality.  I especially love the cut envelope shape and the tiny gold grommets at the corners.

Mango has a red suede shoulder bag without the metal accents for $120.  They also make a slouchy hobo bag for $150.  However, if the idea of red suede during a wet D.C. winter gives you a heart attack, this red patent leather crossbody from Cole Haan and this red Vince Camuto satchel should make you feel more comfortable.

Five.  How fantastic is this wide-weave fisherman’s sweater from Helmut Lang?  The soft color and the mix of textures is so fab that I am willing to ignore the high-low hem.  Unfortunately, I can’t overlook the eye-popping $370 price.

I looked for awhile, but there weren’t many sweaters like this one to choose from.  This Rebecca Taylor is under-$300, but still out of most price ranges.  SEE BY Chloe has a charcoal sweater with a similar but fitted style, and this crewneck sweater from Aqua has a similar open knit for under-$100.  The only sweater I could find with a mix of stitches was this $26 Gap short-sleeve number.

Six.  I’m still loving leopard print for fall, and these t-strap Sigerson Morrison flats are to die for.  I especially love the toe caps and the darker shade of the leopard.  Nanette Lepore has a similar pair for $179, but if a simple, affordable leopard flat is what you’re after, this pair from Coconuts is really cute.

Seven. Malene Birger is easily my favorite designer.  Her pieces are so incredible that I search for them on eBay and sale sites hoping to find one I can afford.  I adore this white lace dress and this leopard skirt is the perfect mix of sass and class.

As for a similar tweed dress, finding one with such strong embellishments is basically impossible, but I love this simple charcoal dress from Piperlime for $89.  This Tibi is a bit pricey, but the contrast sleeves are fab.  And this gorgeous plum-colored Trina Turk has me wondering if I might be able to swing the $400 price.

I think the second half of your post is missing :-(.

I LOVE LOVE LOVE that lace top. Nice mix with the ladylike lace in a bold, modern pattern.

That dress is absolutely gorgeous! Just also wanted to add a heads up about the Gap sweater, though: it seems to be only in kids' sizes.

The Find: Shirts That Don’t Gape

I remember when Rochelle Behrens launched The Shirt — a button-down blouse with anti-gape technology (a patented internal button that keeps the look smooth). The idea seemed brilliant, but at the time, my bust didn’t require an extra button. One baby later, I understand the need for some extra security.
