  1. amy b.s. says:

i love these. and now feel cool because i already own one. i never have anything cool that you feature!

  2. Natalie says:

I love hats! I think you've inspired me to add another one to my collection this fall.

  3. rebecca says:

I love love love these hats but I've never bought one because I always feel too costume-y in them … 🙁

  4. Kate says:

I've been hunting for a cloche for a few years now. Should have gone back and bought the one I saw after-hours in a shop window in Paris. My issue is finding one that's big enough to fit my head. I have a large noggin and most standard (mass produced) hats are too tight. Any suggestions on where to buy custom sizes?

  5. m says:

I have one that I love. However, my issue with cloches is that you have to put them down somewhere instead of stuffing them if your bag. I find it annoying that I literally can't find anywhere to hang my hat in restaurants or offices.

DC isn't equipped with coat racks and hat racks like cities in cold weather climates are (thank you, Boston and Minnesota).

  6. Caroline says:

I love these hats but they're impossible to wear when you have a large head and thick curly hair like I do.

  7. Heather says:

Please, tell me how to properly wear these kind of hats! I own a very lovely brown one. My husband told me to take it off because I looked like a deranged police officer from an Eastern Eurpoean country. I must admit it really did look terrible on me.

  8. AD says:

I had two similar hats a few years ago when I lived in DC and walked to work each wintry day in the snow. My only annoyance with them was that because my head is small (I guess) the back brim of the hat would always bump into the collar of my coat – causing the hat to pop up and sit oddly on my head…. I sold them in a garage sale when I moved back to Louisiana….

  9. m says:

Heather — I only wear mine with a ladylike 3/4 length coat. Maybe others could pull it off, but wearing it with a puffer jacket or a fleece makes me look mismatched and silly.

  10. AP says:

Can you still wear these hats (which are so lovely) with short–and I mean really short, not shoulder length–hair?

  11. Anonymous says:

For Heather, who asked about how to wear this type of hat.

It's possible that this hat is too big or doesn't sit right on your head. It could be that the style of hat isn't the best to suit you (be it the shape of your face, your personality, etc). Though I do like “m's” suggestion to try it with a lady-like 3/4 length coat. It could be the overall outfit. It could also be that sometimes a style of hat just doesn't look right, no matter how we try to pull, fold, slant, adjust the hat. If you really want to wear hats, try a different style. If you like the cloche style a lot, look for a similar-type style but maybe with a wider brim or one that fits closer to the head or one that fits a little looser on the head and see what works for you.

For some reason, I have the shape of head that works really well with a number of style of hats. However, this same head shape does not do wonders for me when it comes to picking out sunglasses. Try to work with what you have – good luck.

  12. A says:

FYI, the URL for the Croft and Barrow hat (which I really like and am surprised is from Kohls) is incorrect — that one brings you to a cloche with a flower on the side. I think it should be this link, in case anyone is interested in that hat: https://www.kohls.com/kohlsStore/crosssells/handbags/accessorizeyourself/hats/PRD~1118728/Croft+and+Barrow+Bow+Mini+Cloche+Hat.jsp

Beauty Review: Bondi Boost

As I age, I notice many changes in my body. Most are fine. Some are frustrating. Like many women, I lost a lot of hair in my postpartum phase. Being anemic for more than a year after, it didn’t grow back in to its former glory. So I’ve tried any number of shampoos, pills and […]

The Mondays: March 18, 2024

This weekend was a tricky one. The warm weather and bright sunshine of last weekend disappeared in a flurry of wet snow trapping our very active 18-month-old in the house with us. Plus, our babysitter cancelled, so neither of us feels ready for the week ahead. But in between making mac-and-cheese and watching Aristocats for […]
