10th Commandment: August 27

Aug 27, 2012

Over the years, I’ve amassed a closet full of pencil skirts.  I want to expand into some other shapes and, this season, no shape is hotter than the flare skirt.  Depending on the length, this style can be a fun addition to your professional and casual wardrobes.

I would send my intern home if her skirt was that short. Maybe the featured skirt itself is OK on a person shorter than the model, but as shown, it's not good!

  2. Amy says:

Wow, that third skirt is awfully short. I agree with Amanda, I'd send an intern home if she showed up in something like that. Hopefully it's just on a very tall model and it is actually knee-length. Otherwise it's a really cute skirt!

So glad to see non-pencil skirts! Love this style.

Re: Length, as it says in the post, you should only wear it to work if the length is appropriate. As we've discussed, appropriate work length is no more than four fingers above the knee when standing. I posted the skirt because it is notoriously difficult to tell whether a skirt will be too short on you if it's too short on a 5'10″ model.

Hi Ladies-I just reread those comments and my response…I may have been bitchier than intended. My apologies. If this were Office Space, I would say I had a case of the Mondays.

The Find: A Striped Tee

Without question, the most worn item in my wardrobe is a black-and-white striped tee. I wear it in winter under sweaters, in spring with white jeans, in summer with black shorts. I’ve been wearing the same one for years (it’s the best). But they don’t make it anymore. So here are some options for replacement.

The Find: Like a McCall’s Pattern

When I was young, my Mother used to bring me along when she would go shopping for fabric. As a result, I spent a lot of time, killing time, flipping through pattern books. So when I spotted this dress, I was instantly transported to the pattern table at a Jo-Ann Fabrics.
