Polyvore Set Here.

For the Farmer’s Market.  Burgundy is very big for the fall season.  Some magazines are calling it Chianti or oxblood, but either way you slice it, deep reds are in this year.  If you want to get into the action a bit earlier, these burgundy shorts can carry you through the remainder of the summer.

A canvas tote isn’t really an appropriate bag for the office, so I used it to create two casual outfits.  This first one combines a casual chino short with a striped boatneck tee for ease and comfort.  I added a cool nautical knots necklace to inject a bit of style, some cool sunglasses and a basic sandal to complete the look.

For the hair, I’d keep it simple.  You could wear a braid or loose waves or a bouncy ponytail.  For the makeup, I like tinted moisturizer and a light application of translucent powder on the weekends.  It’s nice to give your skin a little breathing room. I’d also apply some bright blush to my cheeks and a pink lip gloss.

For Fall Campaigning.  This outfit, a cool blouse with nice denim, translates easily to a relaxed work environment or casual Friday.  You could also wear it when traveling or to a weekend dinner.

This dot blouse is one of the cutest pieces that I have ever seen on The Outnet.  Unfortunately, it was so cute that it’s sold out in every size except 12.  Luckily, I’ve pulled a few more dotted blouses to fill the void.  This peasant style, swiss dot blouse from Nordstrom is just $58.  If you prefer a fitted style with a collar, Halogen has you covered.  I also adore this navy option with sheer sleeves.

To jazz up this outfit, I added a cool studded loafer and my go-to lightweight ivory scarf.  And I love this pink opal jewelry from Pandora.  If you like it too but want to pay less than $100, they also make a smaller beaded ring and a cabochon band that are also to die for.

For the hair, I would wear it up.  My hair never looks right if I wear it down while wearing a scarf.  For the makeup, I’d probably wear a sheer berry lip stain and a bit of plum blush.

  1. Love both outfits, Belle! Can't wait for all the deep reds of fall.

Love the burgundy/oxblood/maroon color for the fall! And it's so perfect that it also happens to be one the colors of my alma mater (time to make football games this fall fashionable!)

  3. Caroline says:

Nice, I'm knitting a burgundy fall hat right now and had no idea it was in this season. Love those deep reds!

And I agree that hair must be worn up with a scarf. It's the same logic as your rule about wearing it up with a tie-neck blouse.

While I'm not in politics, I love your campaigning options. They make for great inspiration when I have night and weekend casual events in student-alumni programming! I'm also loving this Pandora ring, which I posted on my site, too. As always, thank you for including affordable options.

The Find: Shirts That Don’t Gape

I remember when Rochelle Behrens launched The Shirt — a button-down blouse with anti-gape technology (a patented internal button that keeps the look smooth). The idea seemed brilliant, but at the time, my bust didn’t require an extra button. One baby later, I understand the need for some extra security.
