10th Commandment: July 19

Jul 19, 2012

This week has somehow become all about basic, stylish pieces.  Maybe because I have a wardrobe cleanse in my future (some people party on the weekends, I re-organize my closet), but I digress.  A long-sleeved, striped tee is a great piece.

Saint James Galathee Tee (J.Crew, $90)

For those of you who are not familiar with this brand, Saint James is a French company that has been making high-quality knits since the mid-1800s.  Their t-shirts have been worn by style luminaries, including Coco Chanel, for centuries.  Owning a Saint James striped tee is a little like owning a piece of fashion history.

I love my Saint James striped tees (I have this one and a white on navy), and I think you’ll love them too. So check back at 1:00PM for Two Ways to wear this piece.

Stefanie R: That's partially why you add a longer necklace, it limits some of that. On some people it really makes a difference, on most though, you don't notice any significant widening.

  2. LL says:

Anyone know of a classic, striped boatneck 3/4 tee that is fitted (this one looks baggy, based on the photo on the model)? I have been looking for one for ages!

  3. B says:

LL – you can't get more classic than this. If you're between sizes, size down and you should get the look you want.

I own the unisex/men's Saint James tee, in navy-on-white stripe. I like the long sleeve, and I sized down. It's perfect.

  4. Beth says:

LL – I think the truly classic ones are less fitted.

  5. e says:

LL – I have the white on navy tissue striped tee from J. Crew. It's lightweight and fitted without being too tight. I find it works better tucked into pencil skirts for work than the more classic fit version, which is a bit boxy.

  6. kim says:

$90 for a cotton knit? Does it wash itself?

  7. Belle says:

Kim: You're paying for the quality. I bough my first Saint James top in 2005, it looks new seven years and untold hundreds of wears later. No $30 Gap tee can say that.

  8. Stefanie R. says:

Do the horizontal stripes make your torso look wider? I love the look of this shirt, but I've always been told that horizontal stripes are a “no-no.”

A few months ago, my husband killed two of my plants. I was out of town for several weeks, and while I was away, he apparently forgot that plants need water to live. So when I returned, my snake plant and my Calamondin tree were both dead, while his braided money tree continued to thrive. […]

It’s allegedly spring. However, for every minute of sunshine, there seems to be an hour of rain and gloom. So while I’d love to wear lighter spring pieces, it’s time to bring on the layers.

Business Casual Outfit: Linen Closet

And just like that, it’s April. Summer is almost upon us, and the retailers are filled with linen wares. Now, you know that I am usually unwilling to wear linen to work due to the wrinkles. But in this post-pandemic world, perhaps my mind can change.
