Three Ways: Chic Separates

Jun 28, 2012

If you want to purchase an item from this set, refer to this morning’s post. The only item not there will be the handbags, the Ivanka Trump Crystal Satchel ($150).

While I usually wear dresses when I travel for work, I like to bring a skirt and separates to create a few more outfits.  Since most of my work trips last three or four days, I usually need two more outfits.

The outfit on the left pairs a crisp chambray shirt with sweet little dots with a bold aqua necklace and a pencil skirt.  I also chose the flats for this look, but you could easily substitute a pair of heels.  I’d also wear my collar up in the back with the corners turned down in the front, and I’d definitely tuck in the skirt.  You could add the tan belt that from the navy dress outfit if you needed something a little extra.

This outfit is a bit more casual than the outfit on the right.  I’d wear this look on the final day of a conference, which is usually a half day.  I would also wear it if I were touring a facility in the District or attending a town hall.  It’s put together but not too dressy.

For the hair, I would wear it down or in a bouncy, lightly teased ponytail.  I’d keep the makeup natural, but add a pop of lipgloss in a bright pink or berry-red.

The outfit on the right layers the bright yellow cardi over the dotted blouse.  I added the brown belt, which I would wear over the cardigan at the natural waist, with one or two buttons on the cardigan buttoned. I added the green earrings for balance, the rings and the flesh-toned pumps to make the look a bit more dressy.

For the hair, I would wear it up in a low, side bun.  I’d wear a sheer red lip and a hint of bronzer to make sure I didn’t fade away next to the yellow cardigan.

Sloane loves the pool. She jumps from the deck into the water with a crash, never considering her own safety, only to emerge on the surface, shouting “Again!” The pool is my daughter’s happy place. But no place where I need to wear a swimsuit in public is a happy one for me.

The Mondays: July 22, 2024

The Crowdstrike/Microsoft Meltdown forced me to take a few days off this weekend. No laptop. No billable hours. So we packed Sloane up for a visit to a local llama farm, stopped by the pool, went for coffee, etc. Few things are as funny as watching a 23-month old feed carrots to a ravenous rescue […]
