Two Ways: Striped Blouse

For the Office. I’ve said before that I prefer a full suit over suit separates.  However, with this blouse, the full suit felt forced.  It felt like I was trying to find a way to wear the blouse, whereas with the white blazer (vs. the full navy suit) it felt a bit more stylish and a bit more effortless.

I wanted to pull the blouse together using an equally bright earring, so I kept the rest of the accessories neutral.  Anything else would have felt too overwhelming.  But I really like this satchel’s odd shape and slightly-Celine styling.  It’s a bit of a knock-off, but it has enough personality of it’s own that it’s not egregious.

For the hair, I always prefer to wear it up with tie neck pieces.  However, you could also wear it half up.  For the makeup, I would keep it neutral, and maybe apply a bit of bright gloss if I was going out after work.

For Sunday Brunch. I like the fuchsia and mint color combination.  It’s fun and summery but it’s not as preppy as pink and kelly green or as bold as mint and red.

The accessories, again, are very basic.  I chose a hammered hoop to play up the fun aspects of the outfit.  I also love the color and style of this Lucite cuff.  It is far more fashionable than it’s low price point would indicate.  And instead of a flat sandal, I chose this slightly-boho woven wedge.  It’s the kind of summer shoe that can be worn on the weekends or casual work days.

For the hair, I would wear it in a bouncy, teased ponytail.  For the makeup, I would paint my finger- and toe-nails a bright pink and play up my eyes with a hint of shimmery shadow.  I’d also make sure to wear a pop of pink blush on my cheeks and some bronzer.

Beauty Review: Bondi Boost

As I age, I notice many changes in my body. Most are fine. Some are frustrating. Like many women, I lost a lot of hair in my postpartum phase. Being anemic for more than a year after, it didn’t grow back in to its former glory. So I’ve tried any number of shampoos, pills and […]

The Find: Shirts That Don’t Gape

I remember when Rochelle Behrens launched The Shirt — a button-down blouse with anti-gape technology (a patented internal button that keeps the look smooth). The Mondays: March 18, 2024

This weekend was a tricky one. The warm weather and bright sunshine of last weekend disappeared in a flurry of wet snow trapping our very active 18-month-old in the house with us. Plus, our babysitter cancelled, so neither of us feels ready for the week ahead. But in between making mac-and-cheese and watching Aristocats for […]
